Multimedia dance performance comes to CSUN

Dancers, actors, vocalists and videographers come together to create a surrealistic interpretation of quantum physics in a performance titled "Rage to Know," which will be appearing at CSUN on April 28. Soothing violin, upbeat tempos and abstract vocals make up the backdrop for the four members of Donna Sternberg and Dancers as they use their bodies to inspire thought of some of the most complex theories in present day.

A.S. committee recommending next year’s money

The Associated Students finance committee has begun allocating money that should be set aside for next semester's unallocated reserves account, A.S. General Manager David Crandall said. Excess enrollment fees have added about $90,000 more to the unallocated reserves account.

Despite their previous practice of not funding fundraiser events put forth by various clubs and organizations at CSUN, the Associated Students Finance Committee members voted on Monday to fund the cost of an event coordinator for Niger Hunger Drive Week. "Had it occurred to me that this committee would even consider an allocation, I would have asked more questions like?who (the coordinator) would be and what they would be expected to do.

The Associated Students Finance Committee members discussed A.S. President Adam Salgado's review of next year's annual budget, voted on changes to the budget language, and allocated funds from their unallocated reserve account at their Monday meeting. The Intercollegiate Athletics department may receive an increase of $4,600 from the original recommended amount of almost $1.

CSUN community considers benefits, consequences of rec center

University Student Union fees will be rising once again in the fall if the Student Recreation Center referendum passes at the polls on April 17-18. The newly proposed Student REC Center would cost approximately $70 million and encompass 125,000 square feet.

The Associated Students Finance Committee members discussed next year's annual budget language and made recommendations totaling $5,540 at Monday's finance meeting. Director of Finance Adam Haverstock discussed possible changes to next year's budget language.

Matafest eats up funds for USU Program Council

At their weekly meeting on Thursday the Union Program Council nearly wiped-out their remaining funds on Matafest. The UPC allocated $9,496 from their spontaneous funds account to Matafest. As of the prior meeting that account had $12,150. In addition to the funds allocated by the UPC, the Matafest event also received $6,000 from the films committee.

Club says A.S. budget not sufficient for events

This year's budget allocates $467,707 to CSUN clubs and organizations, in spite of calls for reform in last semester's Senate open forum. The recommendations for next year's annual budget are underway as the A.S. finance committee now turns over the budget to the discerning eyes of the A.

Student film, travel requests dominate A.S. meeting

At Monday's Associated Students finance committee meeting, members recommended allocations for the Senate to deliberate on at their next meeting on March 27. The committee recommended $901 to Alejandro Salinas-Albrednt for his student film project. The $901 recommendation came after much deliberation about staying consistent among similar types of requests.

Genetic counseling program helps bridge emotional gap with patients

There is a big misconception about genetic counselors. "People think we tell patients to abort their babies, which is not true. Our job is to tell them the facts and give them options, to help them come up with what works best for them," said Claudia Hernandez, a second year graduate student in the genetic counseling masters program at CSUN.

A.S. committee raises 2007-08 athletics recommendation

The Associated Students Finance Committee appropriated $1.47 million to CSUN athletics department after much debate at their weekly Monday meeting. For the 2005-06 school year, the finance committee had recommended $2.1 million, which dropped to $1.47 million this year.

The Associated Students Finance Committee members are concerned with the quickly disappearing unallocated funds. With only the first four weeks of school behind them, they find that $34,970 remains in their budget, with more to be spent next week, depending on Senate decisions.
