Matadors win two, but lose in to UCSB in semi’s

The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team delivered upsets to the No. 6 UC Irvine Anteaters 66-64 on March 8, then followed that effort with a 74-70 win over the third-seeded Cal State Fullerton Titans March 9. But the Matadors lost to UC Santa Barbara in the semi-finals.

Matadors lose two heading into tournament

The Cal State Northridge women's basketball skidded into the Big West Tournament with two losses, one to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 80-67 at Mott Gymnasium March 2, then to UC Santa Barbara 85-63 at the Thunderdome March 4. Against Cal Poly, the Matadors led 11-8 until Cal Poly went on a 13-1 run to lead 21-12.

Matadors get outshined by Rainbow-Warriors

The Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team saw the Hawaii Rainbow-Warriors take both contests at the Matadome Feb. 24-25. The Warriors held off a two-game comeback by the Matadors to win the first match by scores of 30-25, 30-20, 29-31, 18-30 and 15-11 and then swept CSUN in the last match by scores of 30-27, 41-39 and 30-27.

Matadors win first two home series of the year

The Cal State Northridge softball team had a successful four-game home stand, as they swept doubleheaders against the Southern Utah Eagles on Feb. 23 and the Nevada Wolfpack on Feb. 24. "One of the best qualities about the team is that they're playing together," said head coach Barbara Jordan.

Men’s volleyball comes up short against the champs

The Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team came back from a two game to none deficit against the defending national champion Pepperdine Waves, but were unable to pull off another comeback win on the road. The Waves held on to win 30-24, 30-26, 35-37, 26-30 and 15-13 in five sets.

Softball wins one, loses four at Kajikawa Classic

The Cal State Northridge softball team went a disappointing 1-4 in its trip to Arizona State University for the Kajikawa Classic last weekend. CSUN used an eight-run eighth inning to defeat New Mexico 15-7 in its first game, but stumbled later in the tournament, losing to fifth-ranked Arizona 8-0, 21st-ranked Nebraska 3-2, host Arizona State 11-3 and 17th-ranked Fresno State 9-3.

Matadors stun No. 7 UCLA

The fifth-ranked Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team came back from a two-game deficit to stun the No. 7 UCLA Bruins by scores of 26-30, 25-30, 30-21, 30-26 and 15-10 Feb.10 in Westwood. Freshman Eric Vance led the Matadors with 24 kills while junior Dan Rhodes made up for an off night in CSUN's previous game at UC Irvine.

Softball looks to rebound after down season

"We're not a very competitive basketball team right now, which is a very strange place for me to be in," head coach Bobby Braswell said.

There she was part of one of the best teams in the state at North High School. Now in the San Fernando Valley as a member of the Cal State Northridge women's basketball team, she and her teammates are fighting for position in the Big West Tournament.

Special to the Daily Sundial The CSUN women's basketball team found out right away why the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs are in second place in the Big West Conference, as they delivered an 83-53 rout of the Matadors at the Matadome on Jan. 28. Junior Jamie McCaa led CSUN with 21 points and junior LaJoyce King helped with 16.
