Movie, television filming thrives on campus

Several buildings on campus have prominent and unique architecture, so it is only natural that CSUN will be in films, television shows and commercials. The Oviatt Library is the building used in movies that is the most recognizable building on campus. Feature films such as "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White ' Blonde," "Sky High" and "Bring it On Again," in addition to several TV shows, have been filmed at CSUN.

‘Clicker’ used in large classes

There is a new method of teaching that will help students overcome shyness and gain more confidence in class. "Clicking" is a way for students to answer questions in class without having to raise their hands in the traditional manner. This new system involves a clicker (which is smaller than a normal-sized remote) to answer questions on a test, or in class and for attendance.

CSUN professor blows lid on predatory lenders

Predatory payday lenders that target military bases across the country are now getting a closer look by the U.S. Department of Defense due to a 2005 study by Dr. Steven Graves, a CSUN geography professor. Graves, along with Dr. Christopher Peterson, a law professor at the University of Florida, published their findings last year through the Ohio State Law Journal.

Students to travel to Costa Rica for biology course

The biology department is offering a course that sends students to Costa Rica for five weeks, but it's not just for fun in the sun. Students would be collecting data and interacting with other scientists in the field. Tropical Biology Semester is a whole package students will be learning and gaining hands-on experience during, as well as earning 16 upper-division units in biology.

Emergency housing: shelter for the traumatized

Do you have rats, roaches or ants in your dorms? Being stalked by an ex or dealing with a crazy roommate? If you are, then you are probably headed to emergency housing. CSUN offers a program to move students to another dorm if these issues come up. Emergency housing is a temporary solution to move students to another dorm for a couple of days until a new room is available for them.

CSUN freshmen recall events of 9/11 attacks

Many freshmen were in the 8th grade when the September 11th attacks happened and though most of them are old enough to vote, now, many of them are misinformed and confused about the attacks. "9/11 was the day that the U.S. declared war against Osama bin Laden," said Darcy Cervantes, education major.
