Run-off election for A.S. President, VP

The Associated Students and University Student Union online election ended the night of April 5 with neither presidential or vice presidental slate receiving 50 percent or more of the vote necessary to win. A run-off election for A.S. president and vice president will be held April 25 between the two candidates who received the most votes.

LGBTA to hold ‘Day of Silence’ for violence victims

The CSUN Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, Transgender Alliance will hold an event called "Day of Silence" aimed to bring awareness about violence committed against homosexuals, transsexuals and bisexuals. The event was created to acknowledge that violence against homosexuals still happens, said Thomas Gudino, President of LGBTA.

Online election for A.S.

The 2006 Associated Students online election began April 4 for the positions of A.S. president, vice president, and senators. Students can only vote online for the candidates and the vote count is scheduled to end today at 8 p.m., said Stephen Vanover, A.

CSUN PD cracks down on disabled placard fraud

CSUN police recently worked with Department of Motor Vehicle investigators to arrest people who illegally used disabled driver parking permits at CSUN parking lots. Christina Villalobos, CSUN Police Department spokesperson, said the investigation was conducted in response to complaints from disabled students and the CSUN police.

Most CSUN elevator permits expired seven months ago

The majority of elevators at CSUN have operated with expired inspection permits for more than seven months. Susan Arvanitis, administrative support coordinator at Physical Plant Management, said all elevators inspected in August 2004 were not updated in August 2005 as required by state regulations.

More than 100 protest anniversary of Iraq war

Chants of "No more war" rang out across the Oviatt library lawn on the morning of March 20 as more than a 100 students, professors and community members met on the steps of the library to protest the war in Iraq. Brightly colored poster boards with anti-war slogans were laid out on the steps leading up to the library.

Sports clubs’ practice times, classes overlapping due to lack of facilities

CSUN sports clubs' practice times are bumping into each other because of a lack of available space. The clubs' practice schedules are often overlapping and practice hours have been changed in response to an increase in kinesiology activity classes for the spring semester.

Student projects to get increased funding

The Universiy Corp.'s Student Project Committee plans to increase the amount of funding available to students' projects, said Juana Zamora, chair of SPC an SPC committee member. Though student projects are funded by SPC, the amount of money available to students is often limited due to TUC budgeting.

Oscar-nominated French film gets intimate with diverse WWI characters

Joyeux Noel", written and directed by Christian Carion ("The Girl From Paris"), details the lives of four individuals whose lives are swept up by WWI. It focuses on one miraculous Christmas night in 1914 when their stories intersect on the French frontline.

Hearing for slain student postponed

The preliminary hearing for the five defendants in the Blake Anthony Crawford murder trial has been rescheduled for March 30 at San Fernando Superior Court House. The hearing was originally scheduled for Feb. 21 but was postponed. At the Feb. 21 rescheduling hearing, presiding Judge Cynthia Ulfig ordered medical records from the Northridge Hospital released to the defense attorneys for the five defendants.

BSU shows “Dark” to students for Black History Month

Cyber attacks, high use slow down Web Portal

Daily Sundial The CSUN web portal was slow at the beginning of this semester, partly due to cyber attacks, according to the interim chief information officer of Information Technology Resources. At the beginning of the semester, finding what all the problems were with the portal was not easy.
