The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team used a strong defensive first half and a big second half run and closed out its preseason schedule with a 77-66 victory over the Master's College at the Matadome, Nov. 4. Matadors hope to stand tall in Conference

Justin Satzman November 2, 2006
There is an old clich? that says "it's a brand new year." That saying, however, is true for the 2006-07 California State University, Northridge men's basketball team. Seven months after the Matadors' season ended 73-63 to CSU Fullerton at the Big West Tournament in Anaheim, CSUN looks to begin the new season today with many new faces.

‘The O.C.’ returns after death and graduation

Justin Satzman November 2, 2006
It is rare for a show to drastically change plot and characters, but that is what the FOX show "The O.C." decided to do in its fourth season. Some of it was by necessity with the four main characters graduating high school and moving on to college or the next phase of their lives.

Clippers still best in L.A.

Justin Satzman November 1, 2006
It is fitting that the 2006-07 NBA season begins on Halloween night because something is getting mysterious in the city of Los Angeles. The Clippers, and not the Lakers, are the better team that calls Staples Center home. After a season that saw the Clippers win 47 games and their first playoff series win in franchise history, the Clippers are poised to have an even better season.

Justin Satzman October 24, 2006
It was revealed that TBS will pay $350 million to televise a league championship series of next years MLB playoffs. It will be the first time that this series will be televised on a cable network and not over-the-air channels. This has happened to other sports.

College football brawl part of growing trend

Justin Satzman October 17, 2006
As horrific as the fight between The University of Miami and Florida International was, I think it did bring up an important lesson. This kind of behavior does not just occur in the professional ranks, but in the collegiate ranks as well. I have heard the argument that people have stopped watching professional sports because of the "thug mentality" that professional sports has become associated with.

Foley, Republicans and the elections

Justin Satzman October 9, 2006
First off, let me start by saying Mark Foley and the Republican-led Congress is getting everything it deserves. It is clear that Republicans have know about the inappropriate behavior that was being conducted by Foley for quite some time and yet did not do anything about it.

CSUN alumnus runs for Assembly seat

Justin Satzman September 26, 2006
California's 60th district, which is located in Chino Hills, may seem like far away, but not for Van Tamom, who is running for State Assembly. Tamom began attending Cal State Northridge in 2001 and graduated in June 2003. In his first time running for office, Tamom, who is running as a Democrat in a Republican district, is trying to push education, healthcare and transportation as his main themes to try and get elected.

Global warming actually exists, contrary to some belief

Justin Satzman September 26, 2006
I heard one of the most surprising things I have ever heard while I was sitting in class the other day. One of my classmates does not believe in global warming. I was amazed. I was filled with disbelief. I wanted to yell at this person who I thought was so na've to think that global warming was not actually happening.

Local congressional race warms up between Sherman and newcomer

Justin Satzman September 18, 2006
Labor Day typically means the end to summer. Kids are beginning to go back to school, the weather begins to change and network television brings back its shows. However, in an election year, Labor Day also marks the beginning of the final stretch of campaigning for politicians.

Bush, Leinart out, Southern Cal still in

Justin Satzman September 13, 2006
After two weeks of the college football season, some things look familiar at Tailback U. Of course, you will not hear about it from the East Coast biased media, but USC looks good. I know, it was only one game and it was not against a very good team, no disrespect to Arkansas.

As Bush’s poll ratings run low, fear runs the country

Justin Satzman September 11, 2006
Labor Day typically means the end to summer. But in an election year, it symbolizes the push to get elected. It took one day after the holiday for the Republican-led congress to come out with its election year strategy. They call it Security September. I call it Scare September.
