As soon as they were allowed into office, newly elected Associated Students President Adam Salgado and Vice President Sarah Jackson began working on possible changes to academic advisement and how the administration deals with class availability in the hopes of making graduating an easier process at California State University Northridge.

Drop-out donates $10 million to CSUN

Former Lt. Gov and Curb Records Chairman Mike Curb pledged $10 million to CSUN, the largest single cash donation and the largest gift from an alum to Cal State Northridge, on August 23. Half of the donation will be made in the form of an endowment, earnings from which should provide a permanent revenue source for the College of Arts, Media and Communication.

Student portion of athletic budget could be increased

The Blue Ribbon Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics announced its recommendation to increase students' share of the CSUN athletic budget March 2. CSUN's share of the athletic budget would drop from 60 percent to 33.3 percent of the budget, with the student's share rising to 33.

‘United 93’ depicts real-life heroes and tragedy

I don't know why I needed to see this movie so badly, but I am glad that I did. The movie I am referring to is "United 93." It was almost an obsession; I really felt I had to see it. I am known for being a history fan, but I think it was more than that. I strongly recommend that people see this movie.

NBA playoffs cable-only broadcasting hurts fans

As the NBA Playoffs kick into high gear, a lot of people are wondering why the majority of games are shown on cable. About two seasons ago, NBA commissioner David Stern signed a multi-million dollar package with TNT and ABC, which includes ESPN. When asked the reason for signing a package, which involves most games being broadcasted on cable, Stern responded by saying that the majority of the country now has cable, so it should not affect the ratings.

Track and field has strong weekend as Big West Championship begins

Junior La'Shana Verdon won two of the three heptathlon events to claim the 2006 Big West heptathlon title while Brittany Ricketts and Long Beach State's Jamie Cuthbert-Allen tied for second May 7 at the Matador Track Complex. Verdon, who was in fifth-place after four events, took the long jump with a season-best 19-3.

The Vatican recently asked all of its followers and a lot of other people to boycott The Da Vinci Code movie, which is scheduled to be released May 17-19 around the world. While the Vatican states that the movie and the novel that it is based on is false, it still is threatened enough to tell people to boycott.

The Cal State Northridge men's golf team finished fourth after carding a final-round 288 at the Big West Championship while senior Doug Miller, junior Luis Kim and freshman Erik Jarvey earned All-Conference honors at the Tijeras Creek Golf Course in Rancho Santa Margarita April 24-25.

Just weeks after it was announced that men's basketball assistant coach Danny Sprinkle decided to leave Cal State Northridge for his alma mater, Montana State, assistant coach Joel Sobotka also decided to leave the team to become the top assistant coach at the University of Portland.
