After 48 games, my bracket is all messed up and I am guessing yours is too. Regardless if I had Nevada going to the sweet-16 or Ohio State losing in the championship, I am still going to watch and enjoy the tournament. One of the reasons the NCAA men's basketball tournament is one of the best sports events during the year is because of the so-called bracketology.

After an opening first round that saw the Cal State Northridge women's golf team in fourth place, the Matadors carded a final round of 341 to fall into an eighth place finish at the Santa Clara Colby Classic at the West Course of the Rancho Canada Golf Course March 14-15.

New coach for women’s soccer is a familiar face

The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team has a new coach and he is a familiar face. Interim Athletic Director Janet Lucas announced March 14 that Keith West has been named head women's soccer coach that will be effective immediately. "We are extremely excited for Keith and the soccer program," Lucas said.

MySpace not as bad as many make it out to be

I have heard a lot on the news about MySpace and how bad it is for the nation. People have said the website allows sexual predators to find easy prey without having to leave the comforts of their own home, or that it allows people under the age of 18 to display nudity without any regulations.

Softball extends winning streak to four with sweep

The Cal State Northridge softball team extended its winning streak to four, and have now won nine of their last 10 after defeating Quinnipiac in a doubleheader by scores of 3-0 and 4-3 March 13 at Matador Diamond. In game one, CSUN went ahead with a run in the first.

Men’s volleyball extends winning streak to three

The fifth-ranked Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team won its third match in a row with a three-game sweep over Quincy 30-24, 30-19 and 30-24 at the Matadome March 7. In game one, the Hawks had an early 3-2 lead and the game stayed close through most of it.

Student athletes should not be blamed for grades

A report released last week by the NCAA said that 99 Division I programs across the country will lose scholarships because they failed to meet grade requirements. According to ESPN, an academic progress report is calculated by measuring the academic eligibility and retention of student-athletes by team each term.

CSUN loses one, win one heading to Anaheim

In their last game before the Big West Tournament, the Cal State Northridge men's basketball team blew an 18-point lead and lost in overtime to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 82-76 at the Matadome March 4. CSUN was led by junior Mike Efevberha's 19 points on 7-18 shooting while UCSB was led by Chris Devine's 25 points on 6-14 shooting.

Student portion of athletic budget could be increased

The Blue Ribbon Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics announced its recommendation to possibly increase students' share of the CSUN athletic budget March 2. CSUN's share of the athletic budget would drop from 60 to 33.3 percent of the budget with the student's share rising to 33.

Matadors could not get a win against Pacific

The Cal State Northridge men's basketball team lost both of their games against conference rival the Pacific Tigers and fell seven games behind in the Big West. In the second of the two games, the Tigers held on to beat the Matadors 70-66 in front of 1,289 at the Matadome Feb.

Angel’s name change

Recently the city of Anaheim decided not to appeal a courts decision that allowed the Angels to keep their name. Some of you may be aware that the Angels changed there name last season from the Anaheim Angels to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. I know that some of you who did not know this are wondering why a team would change their name to this.
