Is this a joke or did this really happen?

Maliha Jafri September 11, 2006
I came across a joke on the internet about a man in Central Park who saves a girl from a pit-bull attack. A policeman who was watching the scene walks over and says, "You are a hero, tomorrow you can read it in all the newspapers, 'Brave New Yorker saves the life of little girl!'" The man says, "But I am not a New Yorker!" "Oh, then it will say in newspapers in the morning, 'Brave American saves life of little girl!'" the policeman answers.

Of a walk across the road…

Maliha Jafri September 7, 2006
We decided it was time we had nice fish fries and curry for lunch that afternoon and so we started on our quest. The air conditioner in the car wheezed, unsuccessfully trying to suck out all that heat from within. It was when I was adjusting the vent of the AC that I saw her, an old lady not more than a little bundle of bones, sitting at a very busy intersection reaching out to the sea of people walking around her in a silent plea to help her cross the road.

Letter from the Opinion Editor’s Desk

The Sundial, along with most other college and university newspapers, have a tradition of changing editors every semester in order to give everyone a chance to experience the different positions available, and understand the process of publishing a newspaper.

Welcome hackers, security is a joke

Maliha Jafri September 5, 2006
Don't like your professor? Want revenge for your hours of suffering through lectures and rough grading? Then simply hack his e-mail account, change the grade of 300 students, use his personal data to order pizza, send more than 20 magazine subscriptions and blank CDs to his house.

People still don’t know that communication is key

Maliha Jafri May 3, 2006
What is with people and not communicating, especially in relationships? What ever happened to humans being the most social animals? Poor communication skills can damage all your relationships. This can affect your performance at work, your self-confidence and your physical health.

Online communication becomes more of a problem than expected

Maliha Jafri April 27, 2006
With a new crop of 2006 graduating seniors about to make their way into the "real world," it becomes more and more important that students are aware of their personal web pages and information that is publicly available to potential employers. This is a generation that grew up on the Internet and although students may be Internet savvy, they may not realize all the dangers that web sites hold.

Same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt

Maliha Jafri April 6, 2006
Religious groups and state courts are struggling with the issue of same-sex couples adopting children. The Roman Catholic bishops in Massachusetts are seeking an exemption from state anti-bias laws to allow the church to bar same-sex couples from adopting through its social service agencies, while in another state, if my memory serves me right, a judge ruled that the state could not deny a foster care license to a lesbian couple.

Poetry Corner: Love, regrets, the future and past

Maliha Jafri February 24, 2006
Translucence By Maliha Jafri You did not tell me those were teardrops That stained your eyes; you blamed dust And told me it was normal. I believed Your lie and then joked about things That made you laugh and forget For a moment, the terrible pain You carried inside so silently.
