Associated Students approve electronic elections

The Associated Students voted March 7 to approve revisions to the elections code that will change the organization's elections to an online system. Under the revisions, students will be able to vote in A.S. general elections and social elections such as Homecoming from computers anywhere in the world with internet access.

Student enrollment at CSUN increases; school to get funds

As a result of CSUN exceeding the CSU Chancellor's mandated enrollment target for the 2005-06 school year, the university will receive additional budget funds, university officials said. The number of full-time equivalent students at CSUN for the entire school year reached 25,160, including the Summer 2005 term, according to Bettina Huber, director of institutional research.

Student arrested by Sierra Hall for altercation

A male CSUN student was arrested Feb. 28 on the southwest side of Sierra Hall around 1 p.m., CSUN police said. The student's name could not be obtained at press time. Five CSUN officers physically detained the suspect on the lawn by Sierra Hall when he became combative with the arresting officers, said Christina Villalobos, CSUN Public Safety Department spokesperson.

Free speech imperative

As protests in the Middle East continue over the Danish caricatures of Islamic prophet Muhammad, several denunciations are making their way into politics and more importantly, the media. Recently, several college newspapers have reprinted some of the 12 original caricatures, or drawn cartoons of their own to make fun of the situation.

Associated Students look to reform Judicial Court

The Associated Students policies committee is changing the structure and function of the organization's Judicial Court. If the A.S. Senate approves the proposals, the judges will have power to issue binding rather than advisory rulings on constitutional matters for both the A.

Financial Aid warns CSUN students of grant scam

Daily Sundial Financial Aid and Scholarships recently issued a scam alert about possible fraudulent activity associated with a firm called Advantage America that allegedly claims to give away government grants to college students. The department advised students in late January not to give away personal information to anyone claiming to be from Advantage America.

No hate crimes at CSUN, several in Northridge

Daily Sundial No hate crimes were reported at CSUN in 2005, according to Joy McConnell, records administrator for the CSUN Police Department. The lack of hate reports is in contrast to hate crimes that have taken place in Northridge and the surrounding San Fernando Valley.
