Horror flicks still captivate the audience

People have always had a fascination with stories that were unexplainable and entailed fear. These tales existed long before the development of film, yet they became more mainstream during the 1930s. Though, not the original creator of the horror movie genre, Universal Pictures helped lead the way.

Men’s golf finishes in 14th

Placing last through the end of the first round, the CSUN men's golf team played an impressive second round to help them move up three spots in the final standings at the Santa Clara Invitational at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose Oct. 23-24. The Matadors tied for fourteenth place with the University of Idaho with a total score of 912.

CSUN faces difficulty on road

The CSUN women's swim team faced a tough road schedule as they fell to the University of Idaho Vandals and the undefeated Washington State Cougars on Oct. 20-21. The Matadors fell to the Vandals by a score of 139-66 and to the Cougars 151-50. Against the Vandals, CSUN had several opportunities to take the top spot in several of the competitions but fell behind by very short periods of time.

Matadors fall to Gauchos in conference match

Unable to overcome continuous surges of offensive runs, the CSUN women's volleyball team fell to conference rival UC Santa Barbara by scores of 30-26, 30-19, 30-23 at the Matadome Oct. 19. The loss dropped the Matadors' record to 12-6 overall and 5-2 in Big West Conference play while the Gauchos improved to 12-8 and 4-3.

Matadors finish 17th at Classic

The CSUN women's golf team finished in the 17th spot with a 59 over par performance at the TaylorMade Aztec Fall Classic held at the 72-par 6,259-yard Salt Creek Golf Course on Oct. 16-17. The Matadors finished the first round of the tournament in 14th place, posting a combined team score of 313, but shot a 322 in the final round to give them a total of 635 strokes and dropped them three spots at the end of the final round.

Summer had been officially over for some weeks and signs of rain were apparent for the upcoming winter season. The gray clouds covered the skies throughout most of the day and had yet to disperse with the arrival of the later hours of the day. As the skies darkened, drops of rain finally began to fall as sunset arrived.

Swim team drowned by Trojans

The CSUN men and women's swim teams competed in their first meet of the 2006-07 season as they traveled to USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium, where both teams were defeated by identical scores of 86-7. The Trojans, who finished fourth in the CSCAA rankings last season, dominated the Matadors in the meet.

CSUN looks to finish on top of Big West

If you haven't jumped on the bandwagon already you may soon want to consider doing so. The women's volleyball team has started conference play on a good hand. They are currently in third place in the Big West standings heading into their rematch tonight against the Cal State Fullerton Titans.

Tempers flare, especially in a physical game like football. Last season, the Philadelphia Eagles sidelined Terrell Owens for half of the season.

Women’s cross country finishes first

The CSUN women's cross country team posted five runners in the top 10 finishers as they finished in first place at the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas on Oct. 7. It is the first invitational win of the year for the Matadors. The men's cross country team finished last out of three teams despite a second-place overall finish by senior Manuel Ruiz.

The CSUN women's golf team finished seventh overall with a combined score of 1,008 in three rounds at the 2006 Wolfpack Invitational held at the 72-par 6,044-yard D'Andrea Country Club in Nevada Oct. 4-5. Finishing in seventh through the first two rounds on Oct.

Matadors tie for fourth time this season

The CSUN men's soccer team was unable to hold onto a 2-1 lead as the UC Davis Aggies scored a goal with exactly one minute left in regulation to tie the game Oct. 1 at Matador Soccer Field. With time winding down, UC Davis' midfielder Ian Conklin crossed the ball into the box where defender Paul Cain managed to get off a header into the goal to tie the game at 2-2.
