The Cal State Northridge baseball team fell to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 9-3 in an exhibition game held on Feb.14 at Matador Field. The loss had no effect on the Matadors' record, which remained 6-3, because it was an exhibition game.

CSUN, Chinese univ. swap faculty

The CSUN Philosophy Department and a university will exchange faculty as part of a recent effort for both universities to learn more about Western and Chinese philosophies, university officials said. A Chinese professor will be coming to CSUN to train faculty and lecture students in Chinese philosophy in the near future as part an agreement made in Summer 2005 with Shanghai Normal University's philosophy department to exchange faculty every year, aid Gregory Velazco y Trianosky, Philosophy Department chair.

Matador Dollar Day was held Feb. 15 to provide CSUN students with information regarding financial aid, money management and credit-card debt. "Students get a $20,000 loan on their credit card to get the hottest car - just look in the parking lot - but will not borrow from the student loans office, which has a much low-interest rate," said Lili Vidal, associate director of the Financial Aid Department.

‘Tsotsi’: gangs and humanity in South Africa

The movie "Tsotsi," directed by Gavin Hood and based on the novel by Athol Fugard, is about a criminal's redemption. It is about the transformation in a person and the faith that helped. "Tsotsi" was an effective portrait of the effects of poverty, done so in an elegant visual and respectful story-telling manner.
