Rain officially washed away three out of four games the Cal State Northridge softball team would have played in last weekend's UCSB Commercial Capital Invitational. Rain washed away any chance for the Matadors to come back from their opening game of the tournament.

Softball wins one, loses four at Kajikawa Classic

The Cal State Northridge softball team went a disappointing 1-4 in its trip to Arizona State University for the Kajikawa Classic last weekend. CSUN used an eight-run eighth inning to defeat New Mexico 15-7 in its first game, but stumbled later in the tournament, losing to fifth-ranked Arizona 8-0, 21st-ranked Nebraska 3-2, host Arizona State 11-3 and 17th-ranked Fresno State 9-3.

Water polo finishes 10th at the UCSD Titan Invitational

The 19th-ranked Cal State Northridge water polo team competed at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational Feb. 11 and 12. Although the Matadors defeated No. 20 Santa Clara, CSUN dropped three matches during the two-day tournament, placing 10th place out of 16 teams.

Cindy Franco, senior sociology major, was finishing her first year at CSUN when she realized that she needed help. The strains of university life had gotten to her and she needed someone to talk to. "I felt overwhelmed with my classes and the general pace of the year," Franco said.

The fifth-ranked Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team came back from a two-game deficit to stun the No. 7 UCLA Bruins by scores of 26-30, 25-30, 30-21, 30-26 and 15-10 Feb.10 in Westwood. Freshman Eric Vance led the Matadors with 24 kills while junior Dan Rhodes made up for an off night in CSUN's previous game at UC Irvine.

CSUN officials push for code awareness

Some CSUN officials stressed the importance of being aware of the recently passed CSU student conduct code. The new student conduct code, which applies to all 23 CSU campuses and was passed in November 2005, will replace the existing conduct code, said William Watkins, vice president of Student Affairs.
