Parking fees to increase to fund new structure

President Jolene Koester approved May 4 a three-year increase in parking fees starting in the 2007- 2008 fiscal year. The cost of a parking permit will increase $18 per semester each school year to pay for construction of a parking structure on the G3 parking lot.

CSUN program helps boost Sylmar High grad rates

Richard Waller's tutoring began during his ninth-grade year at Sylmar High School. With the help of CSUN students through the Teacher-Tutor-Student Collaborative project, he is now graduating with his 2006 class. "It would take me longer without a tutor," Waller said.

CSUN event warns parents on dangers of online child predators

Preventing children and young adults from being victims of online child predators led the discussion at the "Eight Annual Circle of Hope: Stand United To Protect Children" on May 6. The event aimed to educate people about the seriousness of child abuse and negligence, said Kathleen Van Antwerp, event coordinator and CSUN child development lecturer, who also educates people about child abuse.

Vatican should worry about causes, not movies

The Vatican seems to be pretty worried about the impending release of a movie version of Dan Brown's book, "The Da Vinci Code," fearing that, of all things, it will give the Vatican a bad image. I personally don't think the Vatican really needs Dan Brown's help with that.

This weekend my two roommates and I introduced the fourth roommate - a Japanese exchange student - to college pastimes both recent and legendary: "Old School" and tequila. The alcohol was made into a different drink, however - what could have been a boring margarita became better with merely pomegranate juice.

Koester undergoes second performance review

The CSU system is conducting its second three-year review of CSUN President Jolene Koester since she took office in 2000. Under CSU policy, presidents at every campus are required to undergo a performance evaluation every three years by the chancellor and the Board of Trustees, said Clara Potes-Fellow, director of media relations for the CSU system.
