U.S. military fighting wrong war in Iraq

While thousands of U.S. soldiers sweat and bleed in the dunes of the Iraqi desert, a much more dangerous enemy grows in the Far East. The invasion of Iraq, according to President Bush, was in response to the numerous weapons of mass destruction that the Middle-Eastern country had in their possession and the threat they posed to the United States.

CSUN librarian, music aficionado dies at 45

On a vigil table inside the references and instructional services office of the CSUN Oviatt Library lay several objects: a Dave Allen and the Arrows CD, music dictionary, a brochure for "Mozart Week" and a mini maracas draped with a Chicana/o sash. The items belonged to Antonio Calvo, music and media librarian, who died June 12 of heroin intoxication, said the Los Angeles Coroner's office.

Foster youths learn life lessons at Teen Forum 2006

High school students from all over California arrived by van and bus to spend the weekend at the CSUN University Park Apartments for what they hoped would be a motivational experience at the Teen Forum 2006. Most of the students, whose ages ranged between 16 to 18, have been in foster care system for many years.

New photography building to open fall

A newly renovated photography building is expected to open September as part of a series of changes the Art and Design Center will undergo, said the Art Department chair. The new photography building, formerly used for woodshop and industrial design, is part of an eastside proposal created in an effort to build an appreciation for the arts and strengthen department unity, said David Moon, Art Department chair.

Former CSUN geology professor hikes for scholarships

A retired CSUN professor led a series of hikes in June to fund scholarships for students in the department of geological sciences. Gene Fritsche, a former geology professor, ended the trail-blazing series June 18 at Cajon Pass in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Summers shines at Junior Nationals finishing second

A CSUN track and field freshman showed her throwing prowess at the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals in Indianapolis June 21-23 finishing second in two events. Jere Summers finished second in her age group in the discus with a throw of 159' 10" as well as the shot put with a throw of 50' 3.

Smoking is bad for everyone's health. That is pretty much a foregone conclusion in today's society. But not everyone cares to pay attention to that fact. Since I was born my dad smoked. He continued to smoke around me after I was born and through many ear infections I endured.

Pot smokers get chance to light up in West Hollywood

The City of West Hollywood has become the first city in Southern California to officially adopt a resolution making the casual use of marijuana a low-priority offense. This resolution instructs law enforcement to essentially turn the other cheek when dealing with recreational pot users as long as the user is not a minor, and it is not being used on public property or intended for sale.

CSUN planetarium offers view at universe through lens

Getting married for the sake of love, not big wedding

Marriage. A small word with rather important implications that affects life. Now that the divorce rate is up to 60 percent, why would anyone want to get married? Possibly, for tax breaks. Maybe that is not the issue, but rather people getting married too quickly with the notion of divorce as a "get-out-of-jail-free" card.
