New engineering college dean moves to CSUN from Sac State

With stacked cardboard moving boxes still sitting in his office, Dr. S.K. Ramesh, the new Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, has had a busy first few weeks. It is immediately evident that Ramesh, who comes to CSUN from California State University Sacramento, where he spent 12 years as chair of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department, is definitely a people person.

Global warming actually exists, contrary to some belief

I was filled with disbelief. I wanted to yell at this person who I thought was so na've to think that global warming was not actually happening.

Students dodge cops in fight to skate

CSUN police and the skaters around Manzanita Hall have been playing cat-and-mouse for years. The police show up, and the skaters scatter or sit down. "Sometimes I'll put my skateboard in the trash and act like I don't skate," said Charles, a 19-year-old sophomore English major.

Part-time professors struggle with salaries

For Karen Savage, a geology studies professor teaching only at CSUN as a part-time professor, one job is not enough to earn a decent salary. She has been teaching at Moorpark College and CSUN in the same semesters for several years now, in order to earn the equivalent of a full-time salary.

Donaldson hopes to lead Matadors to glory

Don't let her age fool you. Darla Donaldson, sophomore middle blocker, walks around with a smile, but that all changes once she enters the court. The six-foot-four Matador shining star is well known among her enemies for her excellence. "When I am in the court, it is a different type of focus and getting my team together," said Donaldson, an interior design major.

Minimum wage moves higher in coming years

The Matador bookstore is one of many places on campus where minimum wage workers will receive an increase in their earnings beginning in January 2007. On Sept. 12, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 1835, which will give the 1 million minimum wage workers in California increases over a two-year period.

New athletic director moves in

In a plan to help boost the athletic department, new assistant coaches and a new athletic director have been hired and put into place in what could be the beginning of a new era for Matador athletics. Last fall, university president Jolene Koester announced the creation of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics.
