Part-time professors struggle with salaries

For Karen Savage, a geology studies professor teaching only at CSUN as a part-time professor, one job is not enough to earn a decent salary. She has been teaching at Moorpark College and CSUN in the same semesters for several years now, in order to earn the equivalent of a full-time salary.

CSUN looks to stay on top of conference

Nothing like the sight of the team you have spent the last four years battling atop the Big West Conference with to get the juices flowing while seeking your first conference win. After two ties in its first two conference games, the CSUN men's soccer team will renew acquaintances with the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos this afternoon at Matador soccer field, and if the script follows the same pattern of the last four years, then it should be yet another Matador-Gaucho battle royale.

Donaldson hopes to lead Matadors to glory

Don't let her age fool you. Darla Donaldson, sophomore middle blocker, walks around with a smile, but that all changes once she enters the court. The six-foot-four Matador shining star is well known among her enemies for her excellence. "When I am in the court, it is a different type of focus and getting my team together," said Donaldson, an interior design major.

CSUN alumnus runs for Assembly seat

California's 60th district, which is located in Chino Hills, may seem like far away, but not for Van Tamom, who is running for State Assembly. Tamom began attending Cal State Northridge in 2001 and graduated in June 2003. In his first time running for office, Tamom, who is running as a Democrat in a Republican district, is trying to push education, healthcare and transportation as his main themes to try and get elected.

Cross country finishes last in Malibu

Despite an invitational best performance by senior Manuel Ramirez, the CSUN men's cross-country team fell to the Pepperdine Waves, while the women's team finished fourth at the Pepperdine Invitational in Malibu on Sept. 23. Ramirez finished the 8k run in a time of 27:21 but the Waves managed to beat the Matadors 25 points to 30 points.

Skating citations anger students

Police cited two skateboarders Monday afternoon for doing what they do best -"tricks." "It's hard to stop, you know," said Henri Yoro, a second-year CSUN student cited for skating. "It's our daily go ? As long as we do this in a safe manner, it's a safe hobby," he said.

Man arrested on charge of vehicle theft

A man was arrested on a charge of driving a stolen vehicle Sept. 21 in the Lot B3 parking structure near West University Drive, said CSUN Police Officer Doug Flores. Khristoffer Crawford, 23, was booked at L.A.P.D. Van Nuys, according to the university police crime logs.

The CSUN Matador women's volleyball team successfully defended its home court last weekend, as the Matadors swept the UC Riverside Highlanders by scores of 30-21, 30-27 and 30-14 on Sept. 21, then followed that effort with a four-game win over previously 12-1 Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Sept.

FBI secretly searches student financial aid requests

For close to five years, the Department of Education has been secretly searching their databases, looking for suspicious names provided by the FBI. The department's student record database, containing the personal information of about 15 million financial aid applicants, has been accessed on behalf of the FBI without notifying the students or college administrators.
