Just the word cancer usually causes fear, but there are some new developments in the fight against cervical cancer and human papillomavirus.

Klotz offers meningitis vaccines

The Klotz Student Health Center will continue to give out free doses of the meningococcal vaccine, Menactra, during its scheduled walk-in hours until Thursday, Sept. 21. The American stance on education today seems to be a huge stage and we are great actors. Our politicians have nice and neat little platforms on education and we make it seem like our schools are so important to us but really, on a day-to-day, show-me-the-money level, we simply don't care.

Fraternity, neighbors continue to clash

Every Sunday, members of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity put on clothes that display their letters and walk around their neighborhood, picking up trash as they go. They walk from their home on Halsted Street up Etiwanda Avenue and through the surrounding streets, "picking up anything, from something small like bottle caps to something big like a car battery," said Geoffrey Peterson, president of ZBT.

CSUN hired 56 new faculty during summer

The new school year has started at California State University Northridge, and with new students come new faculty. During the summer, 56 new faculty were recruited to teach at the university. Of these new tenure track faculty, 54 started this fall. One new instructor will begin in the spring and another in Fall 2007.

New organizations surface at CSUN

With the hope of new experiences at CSUN, this fall semester is ushering in about 20 to 25 new clubs and organizations in addition to the existing 240. "People need more clubs (to build) a community ? we have such a diverse campus, (so) clubs bring people together," said Yeprem Davoodian, activities assistant for clubs and organizations at the Matador Involvement Center.
