Campaign seeks to lower prices for texts

Jeremy Foster November 28, 2006
The debate over textbook prices was rekindled last year when the Government Accountability Office released a study indicating that textbook prices have increased an average of 6 percent each year - double the rate of inflation - since 1987. Student interest groups were quick to thrust the study like a dagger at an increasingly defensive publishing industry, which denies prices have been inflated to maximize profits and claims the 2005 report was tailored against it.

The department of geological sciences is nestled on the second floor of Live Oak Hall. It is perhaps one of the smallest departments in the College of Science and Mathematics. Dr. Ali Tabidian, the chair of the department, would like to raise awareness of geology, its practical uses and geologists' contributions to society.

Matadors struggle on the road

Justin Satzman November 27, 2006
It is very simple. When the Cal State Northridge men's basketball team's offense is connecting on all cylinders, the team wins. When it is not, like it was in the 91-70 loss at Tulsa on Nov. 25 and the 66-44 loss to Illinois St. on Nov. 20, the team loses.

Familiar foes head to St. Louis

Victor Flores November 27, 2006
One year ago, the Cal State Northridge men's soccer team had its championship run end in New Mexico in a 1-0 loss to the Lobos. This year, the Matadors failed to qualify for the tournament altogether, yet something else seems just as unsettling. Four teams remain in the championship run and CSUN is more than qualified to be named on the same list as these four remaining teams.

False alarm at Eucalyptus Hall

Micah Flores November 27, 2006
Students and faculty evacuated Eucalyptus Hall yesterday around 2 p.m. due to a mistakenly activated emergency fire alarm. As students filed out of the building, one Los Angles County fire engine and four CSUN police squad cars responded to the scene. After a short-lived investigation - someone thought they saw smoke - officials determined the source of what turned out to be a false alarm.

Letter to the Editor

defaultuser November 27, 2006
On Thursday, November 16 there was an article about the freshman connection program. It was a good article up until the opinion of one of the participants, Mike Swartz, was stated. It looked as though he was not happy to be there and was "tricked" into the program which is probably not true because he was asked if he wanted to be in it.

Start to ‘fight’ hate by ending ‘hate crime’ laws

Thomas M. Sipos November 27, 2006
Racial hatred was once a serious problem in America, manifested in lynchings and government-enforced segregation. But the pendulum to "combat hate" has now swung into a Kafkaesque Orwellian zone. Our laws encourage shakedown artists and charlatans, while exacerbating rather than mitigating race relations.

Ivan Yeo November 22, 2006
The CSUN women's volleyball team closed out its 2006 season on a rather sour note, falling to the Loyola Marymount Lions in four games by scores of 30-18, 30-26, 24-30, 30-22. Freshman Siara Grayson knocked down a team-high 14 kills and sophomore Darla Donaldson added 13.
