Men’s basketball has a night to remember

It was a record-setting game for the Cal State Northridge men's basketball team as the Matadors shattered their record for most points in one game with a 159-97 win over the Redlands Bulldogs in front of 1,016 at the Matadome on Nov. 15. The 159 points shatter the old mark of 123 points scored against Westmont on Feb.

Groups come together

For centuries, the Muslim and Jewish communities have been at each other's throats. The fundamental differences between the two groups have been the cause of wars, violence and hatred on a very large scale. However, during the last two weeks at CSUN, members of both communities came together to discuss the causes and history between the two religions.

Protesting the UCPD for unjustly using taser gun

Students expect campus security to provide safety - not to turn against them. More than 400 UCLA community members expressed this in a protest on Friday after a Muslim/Iranian-American, UCLA student Mostafa Tabatabainejad, was stunned five times with the taser gun before being handcuffed and taken into custody by the UCPD last Tuesday night, at the Powell Library.

Grant will aid professors, students in nanotechnology

Physics professors Nicholas Kioussis, Donna Sheng and Gang Lu have received a grant from the National Science Foundation to pursue research in nanotechnology. According to Kioussis and Sheng, the grant was awarded during the summer for their ongoing research and will be used to fund further research conducted by minority students under the guidance of Princeton professors, as well as create other opportunities for the physics and astronomy department.

The Matadors came out firing and dunking early and often, almost like they were playing in their driveway, and the end result was an unthinkable 159-97 (that's right folks, 159-97) thumping of Redlands.

Few like to hear the words "sex scandal" or "high profile criminal case," and the reasons for this should be obvious. However, a much less obvious word that is just as nerve racking as the others is the word "budget.

As the California State University executives convened inside the Long Beach chamber room, faculty, staff and students were sure to make their presence known yesterday as they loudly taunted the board members in protest. Peering through a window from the outside of the building in, a photo of Chancellor Charles Reed's head - blown up larger than the diameter of a stop sign - was held up for every member of the board, including Reed, to see.

Reed's job performance and tuition fee increases yesterday in Long Beach. Outspoken protestors rallied the streets from Ocean Avenue to the CSU's waterfront headquarters.

Pow wow raises awareness of Native American veterans

The American Indian Student Association at CSUN honored Indigenous Awareness Month by having a pow wow during Veteran's Day weekend, about two weeks after Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante announced that November will now be recognized as American Indian Heritage Month in California.

Fees may increase as Trustees OK budget

On Tuesday, the California State University Board of Trustees approved a budget to be sent to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for approval in January. The 2007-08 budget requests just over $3 billion in state general fund support and assumes $1.3 billion in student fee revenue and $183 million from reimbursements.

The Freshman Connection reaches out to new students

The Freshman Connection, a 1-year-old CSUN program directed toward first-time freshmen, had an event in the Grand Salon of the University Student Union yesterday. The flyer for the event said, "Come celebrate your first semester at CSUN!" Each of the 299 students who are part of the Freshman Connection this year were supposed to participate in the event, which displayed presentations from classes within the program, said Cheryl Spector, Director of Academic First Year Experiences at CSUN.
