HE’S GOT A TICKET TO RIDE

Esha Momeni December 15, 2006
Drew DeCaro is difficult to capture on film without a guitar. He always seems to have one with him, so it's hard to imagine him otherwise. In his final year at CSUN, the twenty-three-year-old Jazz Studies major commits himself to his role as musical director, lead guitarist, bartender, event promoter, entrepreneur, teacher and actor (the last talent could be debated, he says) with the same fervor which manages his upcoming 19 credit Spring semester.

Myths and tricks of the mind: Urban legends of today

Jillian Ballard December 15, 2006
Do you happen to look through the window in your back seat before you get in to make sure no one's there? What about not warning someone if their lights are off by flashing your high beams for fear of a gang initiation? How many people will stand in front of a mirror and recite "Bloody Mary" three times? If you follow these rules of thumb, it is because of stories that you've heard growing up.

Starting professor pay varies greatly at CSUs

Daniel Harju December 15, 2006
Entry-level salaries for tenure-track professors in different disciplines at CSUN vary by as much as $30,000, the 2005-2006 salary report suggests, a trend that reflects market forces largely outside of the university's control. Accounting, business, economics and mechanical engineering are among the highest paying disciplines, whereas faculty in the humanities and ethnic studies programs are among the lowest paid.

Sam Womack December 15, 2006
Originally Published October 17, 2006 Kevin Mojaradi-Stenke, marketing coordinator, has already pulled the cards from campus circulation for the November elections. The Associated Students had distributed their first batch of cards advertising the slogan "I Vote I Won" to get students aware and interested, but they have recently gotten a complaint that the hands on the card do not do an adequate job of representing the diverse student population.

Matadors win shootout against Pepperdine

Ivan Yeo December 15, 2006
Turns out playing Redlands was a huge benefit to the Cal State Northridge men's basketball team while playing Pepperdine. The Matadors faced the advanced version of the "press-n-shoot" system used by the Waves Saturday afternoon at the Matadome. The game lived up to its billing in terms of a high-scoring shootout, but the Matadors still came out with the one thing they really wanted: a win, as CSUN held off a feisty Waves squad 95-92 at the Matadome.

Rock-n-roll, bodyboards and geography

Originally Published Oct. 25, 2006 Growing up around the South Bay, I knew a guy who would pay me $20 to clean his CD collection. He was a part-time doctor and a full-time rocker; every so often he would set up his keyboard next to an open glass door overlooking Hermosa Beach and play the blues with some local buddies.

The real meaning of ghetto

OnTay Johnson December 15, 2006
Last week I was riding with a friend and his wife and they were talking about Halloween. She was upset because there were not any kids that came to their apartment for candy. Her husband laughed and said that she thinks the neighborhood they live in is ghetto.

Game for the Ages: CSUN scores 159 points

Ivan Yeo December 15, 2006
If you want to know how unbelievable Wednesday's 159 point game was, here are a few facts: CSUN scored 73 points, all by the first half, and not only shattered its highest single-game point total, which was 123 against U.S. International on Dec.

He put his revolver up to the seven-month pregnant woman's stomach and shot her. Her husband pleaded and offered the man his wallet and his wife's jewelry but it was already too late.
