Letters to the Editor

I am very offended by the article "How possible is it to bring peace in the Middle East?" in the Dec. 7 issue. It guises behind the banner of peace, yet in reality is a virulent article calling for the destruction of the state of Israel. This can be seen in the statement "Israel cannot be serious about peace while they are occupying Palestine most of the West bank and the Gaza Strip.

A.S. representatives discuss future with CSUN culture clubs

Sam Womack December 12, 2006
This semester it began with CAUSA needing more funding for a film festival, then came ASO being recommended zero dollars for Africa Week. A similar situation occurred with MEChA and their request for Dia de Los Muertos, and most recently was AISA's need for their annual Pow Wow.

MySpace hackers, spam and suits

Nicholas Collard December 12, 2006
We live in a time of unprecedented data gathering capabilities. The Internet has immensely bolstered the digital age by providing people all over the world with the means to disseminate information and inexpensively communicate with each other. With gargantuan Web sites like MySpace becoming Internet juggernauts because of their ability to attract a wide range of people from every age and ethnic demographic, our level of freedom seems almost utopian.

Military tactics to change for better

Zabie Mansoory December 11, 2006
Congratulations President Bush, you have finally picked someone with a brain to head your military. You have finally admitted your ignorance and brought in someone who has some knowledge about intelligence and war. Just hours after the bipartisan Iraq Study Group released their findings on Dec.

10 tips to survive finals

Yolanda Becerra December 11, 2006
Finals week is always a hectic time for college students. While some rely on flash cards, study groups and notes, there are those who in desperate times resort to osmosis. So, in an effort to make this stressful week go as smoothly as possible, here are some tips that might help you out, a sort of "Finals Week for Dummies" guide.

Christian values come in handy at the voting booth

OnTay Johnson December 11, 2006
As a Christian I have no problem with anyone choosing a political party to represent their religion. However, with the recent incidents permeating the media involving the Republican party and its Christian associates, I have found reason to illuminate a fallacy that many might not be aware that "red state-Christians" and their "conservative Christianity" is not truly representative of Christianity.

Pope’s convenient visit to Turkey

Talin Maghakian December 11, 2006
In light of an excerpt in a speech delivered by Pope Benedict XVI in September at the University of Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany which was largely perceived by the Muslim world as inflammatory and offensive, it has become difficult to determine the nature of the Pontiff's recent visit to Turkey.

Constitutional Rights vs. Right-Wing Pundits

Zabie Mansoory December 11, 2006
Have you ever been discriminated against or hated by others every day? If you answered yes, I am very sorry to hear that. But sadly enough, that is something Muslim-Americans have to deal with on a daily basis. Just a few weeks ago I wrote an article about Keith Ellison, the first Muslim who got elected in congress.

Matadors look to finish strong in second half of season

Matt Crosson December 11, 2006
The CSUN hockey team has not been the dominant force it was last season, but at the midway point of the season, the players are confident their best hockey lies ahead. The Matadors skated their way to a 7-4 record during the first two months of the season, recording two wins apiece against Sacramento and UC Davis and suffering disappointing losses to College of the Canyons and UC San Diego.

CSUN center addresses ethics issues

Talin Maghakian December 11, 2006
For those students who find themselves tormented with certain decisions they cannot seem to make or who are interested in the role ethics plays in many aspects of college life, there is the Center for Ethics and Values. Not among the better-known establishments on campus, the center seeks to promote the use of ethics in day-to-day decision-making and exchanges with students and faculty.

Depression could strike students during final exams, holiday season

Christina Eddings December 11, 2006
As the school year winds down, so do the moods of many students. With added pressures to do well on final exams, turn in essays and buy gifts for family and friends with what little money they have, students can be at risk for the "holiday blues" or depression.

Gates to bring negative change

Talin Maghakian December 11, 2006
With the Senate's confirmation of Robert Gates' nomination for secretary of defense, it looks as though the year will conclude as the administration will embark on a fresh, new - minus Donald Rumsfeld - journey with a new course of action in Iraq. Or will it? The former director of the Central Intelligence Agency has employed a rhetorical tactic that speaks of reform regarding the war in Iraq, in which the U.
