CSUN remains half game behind in conference

The first timers just keep coming for the CSUN Matador women's basketball team. Exactly a week after defeating the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos for the first time in two decades, the Matadors picked up another significant win on Thursday, as they defeated the Long Beach State 49ers 74-60 at the Matadome.

After incidents, women’s center tries to raise awareness

The Women's Resource and Research Center is working to raise awareness on campus dealing with sexual assault and battery charges that were reported in previous semesters. The WRRC is a safe spot for students to escape to when needed. They offer a place to go for peer counseling and referrals to other major resources as well as a place to study and make new friends.

National Center on Deafness receives $5 million grant from U.S. Department of Education

Few other groups compare with CSUN's National Center on Deafness when it comes to competing for federal grants for the deaf and hard of hearing. NCOD has received a $10 million grant for the past 10 years, providing $1 million each year. The grant is given to provide assistance to improve the education and assistance for the deaf and hard of hearing, and to better academic accomplishments.

Troop surges are not answer in Iraq, CSUN professors say

President George W. Bush's order to send 21,500 troops to Iraq to provide security for Iraqi civilians may not be the best solution, and in the long term might backfire, said CSUN political science professors. Mehran Kamrava, a professor and specialist in Middle Eastern studies, said that the new surge would only increase the number of the American Army soldiers and officers.

Project P.E.D. will continue

The department of Public Safety at CSUN is working to improve parking and traffic on campus during the semester's opening week and will also continue to enforce Project P.E.D. throughout the semester. The project is a pedestrian safety campaign that began last December and stands for Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Deterrence.

Students turn to questionable Wikipedia

To a student, taking lecture notes and doing research can be the most tedious of tasks. Students constantly struggle to raise their hands in class or deal with the old Dewey Decimal System. They need another source of information, one that is accessible and relatively easy to use.

A.S. Senate discusses Black History Month activities

Associated Students senators and directors met Tuesday for the first time since school has been back in session. The representatives were ready to get back to work after their winter break weekend retreat. The Muslim Student Association is working with the Black Student Union to host Malcolm X's daughter, Ilysah Shabazz, in "Malcolm X and His Legacy" on Feb.

Some CSUN students ignore internship advice from advisers

Although most CSUN students are aware of the opportunities that internships provide, they have their own reasons for not having completed them. "I'm not sure exactly what I want to do," said junior marketing major Jeff Felix. He has not completed an internship because he is considering changing his major to communications, he said, adding that he will complete an internship in the future depending on the major he decides on.
