Honesty always best

Natalie. A. Cole February 19, 2007
Honesty is the best policy. I can pretty much guarantee the majority of people on this campus have heard this phrase at least once in their lives. I heard this phrase multiple times from my parents while growing up. Honesty was such a valued attribute in society.

Letter to the Editor

In response to "Award-winning journalist to kick off Speak Your Mind lecture series," published on Feb. 13. First, I'd like to say that I am an alumna and an immigrant, so you cannot say that I am anti-immigrant. I do admire the speech forum presented and sponsored by the Speak Your Mind Planning Commitee and Associated Students.

There is no place like the Matadome

Ivan Yeo February 19, 2007
It had to feel like the Pepperdine match all over again for the CSUN Matador men's volleyball team this past Thursday. The ninth-ranked Matadors found themselves in another five-game battle at the Matadome, this time against the 13th ranked Long Beach State 49ers.

Game was up for grabs, but CSUN failed down the stretch

Ivan Yeo February 19, 2007
In a game that saw control of the game see-saw back and forth throughout the night, the CSUN Matador men's basketball team wound up on the short end of the stick, as it lost its Bracket Buster matchup to the Cleveland State Vikings 85-76 at the Matadome Saturday night.

Expectations for Valentine’s Day too high

Katrina Mossberger February 14, 2007
Love is in the air, and it's the name of the game on Valentine's Day. Today is the day when couples go out to expensive restaurants, men buy flowers, chocolates and diamonds, and quite a few of those dates are unhappy. And it's not just those who are single who are disappointed.

Student apathy extends further than campus

defaultuser February 14, 2007
When I was younger, I had an unrelenting fascination with the ideas perpetuated by popular culture and entertainment about college life. I grew out of that when faced with the initial reality of attending college in the same city where I grew up. I figured that when I went away to school, to what could presumably be called a "real" college environment, this would change.

Daily Sundial’s new serialized story: ‘Waiting’

PAUL CASTILLO February 14, 2007
When they reach the reception desk she sits down in front of a computer and starts tallying up the money he owes. "So, how was it," she asks without looking up from the screen. "Oh, about as well as these things go, I suppose," he says with a lopsided grin.

Deadlines getting closer to add or drop classes

Ana Cubias February 14, 2007
As the last day to drop or add a class without being penalized gets closer, the possibilities for students to drop a class after the fifth week are narrowed down to extreme circumstances such as medical reasons, military duty call, relocation out of the immediate area and sometimes stress.

Credit card snack machines tempting

Katrina Mossberger February 14, 2007
The vending machines scattered among the buildings on campus are a quick source of food to satisfy a hunger rumble, especially during those long three hour night classes. They're full of delicious snacks, most of which are not great for your health. The vending machines in Manzanita Hall and Sierra Hall are now accepting credit cards, breaking my last line of defense for denying myself a snack between classes.

Don’t make me breathe your carcinogenic air

Justin Satzman February 14, 2007
Smoking cigarettes in public places has basically been outlawed in the United States today and especially in California, which is one of the toughest states when it comes to smoking in public. Smokers can no longer smoke in restaurants, bars or any where else that is considered a public environment.

Matador Briefs

Baseball Runs early in game were enough to stop Matadors The Fresno State Bulldogs had an early jump on the Matadors, scoring five runs in their first four innings, enough to stop CSUN. The Bulldogs went on to beat Northridge 8-4, with solid pitching from their starting pitcher, Clayton Allison, and lights out performances from their relievers.
