Rec center good idea, unlikely to get by students

Katrina Mossberger March 27, 2007
The University Student Union recently proposed a "comprehensive recreation center," with cool things like a rock climbing wall, a boxing studio and baby-sitting services. If I am interpreting the USU's voter's guide correctly, it sounds like the beginning of a new fitness center that could offer fitness classes for the unmotivated exercisers like myself, who would never go use the pre-existing Fitness Centre that CSUN currently offers.

Gibson debacle harmful for all involved

Katrina Mossberger March 27, 2007
After the insane fallout and the highly polarized sides to the Mel Gibson debacle, any amount of amusement from me is gone. Instead, I'm depressed as everyone involved has come out looking a little worse for wear. I have not seen Gibson's film "Apocalypto" because by all accounts it was too violent for my tastes.

Kriti Sood March 27, 2007
A recently released CSU study sheds light on the significant number of incoming freshmen who enter CSUs unprepared for the rigors of university-level math and English. System-wide, 37.5 percent of regularly admitted first-time freshmen in Fall 2006 needed remediation in mathematics compared with 36.

In response to 'Mel Gibson lashes out during 'Apocalypto' screening,' originally published March 26. CSUN students learn role of women in Islam

CSUN students gathered at the University Student Union's Grand Salon on Monday to learn more about the role of women in Islam in an event sponsored by the Muslim Student Association. The event, which drew approximately 60 to 70 students, was held in the last week of Women's History Month, which has seen other events on CSUN's campus.

Mutant ninjas fight, again

John Manalang March 27, 2007
In 1984, the world would have never known that their children would look up to four amphibians as their heroes. Four turtles, named after the renaissance artists Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello, were mutated and trained to fight evil. They lived in the sewers, ate pizza and were guided by their rat sensei, Splinter.

CSUN’s Apollo Night entertains students, draws performers

Natalie A. Cole March 27, 2007
The doors to the Northridge Center were opened at 7 p.m. on Thursday. A crowd of students stood in line with their tickets for a night of entertainment and good laughs. The stage was cleared and four microphones stood at ground level directly in front of the stage, which was decorated with 93.

Matadors not intimidated by #3 BYU

Ivan Yeo March 27, 2007
The 10th ranked CSUN Matador men's volleyball team showed it wasn't afraid of the third ranked BYU Cougars this past weekend. The Matadors made a statement right away, winning the first match in four games by scores of 30-27, 30-17, 21-30 and 30-27 on Friday night and the following night, threatened to pull off an improbable two-match sweep of the Cougars, winning the first game 30-27, but ultimately, the Cougars were not to be denied, as it won the final three games by scores of 32-30, 30-28 and 30-28 to salvage the split.

Silverlake psychedelia

Rafael Cornejo March 27, 2007
It was evident in the small Los Angeles borough of Silverlake, as Spaceland patrons held their beer bottles of choice and crowded the stage that West Indian Girl was headlining. The later the hour, the more densely packed the audience became, and for a good reason.
