CSUN helps keep students safe from assault

The world seems safe in the middle of the day. With the sun shining, we feel safe no matter where we are. However, the harsh reality of the world is, day or night, no one is truly safe. Although the sun's warm rays may lead us into a false sense of security, the truth of the matter is sexual assault can happen to anyone, anywhere, at anytime.

She said she joined the Navy SEALS to make her family proud. But her world came crashing down after she was raped while on night watch, a young woman told the crowd outside CSUN's Women's Center during the Take Back the Night rally on March 8. "He took my virginity," she said softly.

CSU administrators immune to student criticism

With the recent approval of a 10 percent hike in student fees by the CSU Board of Trustees, no doubt many students are fired up with rage at the board. Many and loud are those who oppose fee increases of any kind, whether it's because they think many students will have to struggle with the increase or because they believe their current tuition is spent on the wrong things.

Little left in unallocated fund for clubs

With cultural clubs' graduation ceremony finance requests right around the corner, the Unallocated Reserves Account fund was lessened considerably at the Associated Students Senate meeting on Tuesday. With several members of the Filipino American Student Association looking on from the gallery in the University Student Union's Thousand Oaks Room, the Senate approved $6,000 for the group's upcoming Pilipino Cultural Night.

Matadors fall short of upsetting Irvine

The CSUN women's water polo team came very close to upsetting #5 UC Irvine, but were outscored 4-1 in the fourth quarter and lost 9-6 in the first game of a mini tournament hosted by Northridge at the Matador Pool on Saturday. CSUN came back to win a non-conference game against Bucknell 13-8 later in the day.

Men’s volleyball team sweeps NJIT

The CSUN Matador men's volleyball team ended its five-game home-stand with a bang, sweeping the New Jersey Institute of Technology by scores of 30-17, 30-18 and 30-18 at the Matadome Wednesday night, improving their record to 13-9. "We played very well, and we played hard the entire time," head coach Jeff Campbell said.

CSUN students help lend support to faculty’s fight

More than 500 CSUN students filled out yellow survey cards that declared their opposition to the student tuition increase from a necessity to increase the quality of their education by marking "yes" to strike. In order for their stance to be heard and taken seriously, Educational Opportunity Program student workers are stepping into classrooms to inform fellow students about the two-day strike, which CSU faculty voted on over the last two weeks.
