If it's mid-April, it must mean the CSUN Matador men's volleyball team is embarking on another postseason run. For the sixth straight year, the Matadors will compete in the Mountain-Pacific Sports Federation playoffs. This year, Northridge, seeded seventh in the MPSF playoffs will start in its own confines, as it hosts the eighth-seeded USC Trojans at the Matadome in the play-in round tonight at 7 p.

Katie Sheehy April 17, 2007
As Jello Biafra, former leader of the Dead Kennedys, walked on stage at the Northridge Center on Wednesday, he was greeted by nearly 200 people who called out "Hello Jello!" His speech, titled "Spoken Word," was the last in an event to commemorate Earth Celebrations Supershow, which was put on by the Green Party and Associated Students.

Matadors get second conference win, but lose series

Ivan Yeo April 17, 2007
It took a while and certainly a lot of shortcomings, but the CSUN Matador softball team finally registered that elusive second Big West Conference win. After staying with the undefeated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs for the first two games on Saturday, only to come a tad short in the end, the Matadors came back to win the rubber match in dramatic fashion, winning the final game 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh, handing Cal Poly its first conference loss.

Increasing gap between rich and poor already too big

Marla Schevker April 17, 2007
The differences and gaps between the people in the United States are overwhelming. There are differences in religious beliefs, political point of views and, of course, economics, to name a few. Most of these differences don't affect individuals on a daily basis, but the economic gap between rich and poor is disturbing.

Apathy not the reason students don’t vote

PAUL CASTILLO April 17, 2007
There's a big issue that no one running for an office in the Associated Students is talking about. Most of them don't even want to acknowledge its existence. Simply put, there's not much that will get the general student body out to vote. That's not to say they don't try their best to get people out to vote.

Media portrays Muslims negatively, forum reports

Kristen Whitehurst April 16, 2007
Fear and mistrust of Muslims and Islam is not only harmful to members of the community, but to the larger society as well, said members of the Muslim Public Affairs Council Tuesday night in the USU's Grand Salon. "It's not hard to understand why there is fear.

Associated Students’?? accounts to be replenished by high enrollment

Tuesday's Associated Students Senate meeting had positive news on the financial front, as Director of Finance Adam Haverstock said that the excess enrollment funds would be voted on for availability next week. "We are in the preliminary stages of receiving money from excess enrollment, so we won't be at zero," Haverstock said in reference to the financial actions on the agenda.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF SPRING BREAK

TALIA HASSAN April 16, 2007
Several students from Cal State Northridge worked on houses damaged by Hurricane Katrina during their Spring Break vacation. Although the hurricane ripped through the Gulf Coast nearly two years ago, many cities are still struggling to clean up the devastation that remains.

Voting should be based on issues, not popularity

defaultuser April 16, 2007
I'd like to think that after high school, elections and voting become more than a popularity contest. Yet this is hardly true. Even after we leave CSUN with our degrees, there is the reality of a politically apathetic nation - and one defined by its unrelenting two-party system.

Those unhappy with A.S. should vote to change it

Katrina Mossberger April 16, 2007
It's Election Day again, at least for Associated Students here at CSUN. Time for the small population of students who actually get around to voting to decide which senators will represent which colleges and which presidential hopeful will win the president's chair.
