Team hopes to return to NCAA Tournament

After a solid, yet disappointing 2006 campaign, the CSUN men's soccer team looks ahead to what it hopes will be a bounce-back 2007 season. Coming off a 2005 season that saw the Matadors win their second Big West Conference Title and advance to the sweet 16 of the NCAA College Cup Tournament, the Matadors entered last season with high expectations.

Bad celebs need to shape up

The other day I drove up the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu with a friend. As we went down the road, he began to point out to me all of the celebrity houses with their fancy gates and tinted SUVs. It was my first time driving on that part of the PCH and I couldn't help but marvel at the fancy houses and how nice everything looked in general.

The first male CSUN student to win a NCAA Division 1 National Championship was honored with an official statement of accomplishment at the Associated Students Senate meeting yesterday afternoon. Dashalle Andrews, 22, jumped 25 feet and three quarter inches in the long jump 2007 NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships held in June to be the second person in CSUN history to win a NCAA event.

Leo Samaniego drinks a Red Bull energy drink about once a month, whenever he feels a bit tired or because its advertisements lure him to spend a few bucks on it. However, Samaniego said he does it just for the flavor, not because of an addiction. He's quick to affirm that energy drinks are sources of fast calories, but fall short of being nutritious and healthy.

Dear Sundial, I very much appreciated your op-ed pieces on parking. May I suggest that you do a follow-up article regarding ways to improve the situation? Each new parking space in a structure that the university has to build costs $16,000 to $18,000.

Matadors tie USC 2-2 in scrimmage

The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team tied USC 2-2 in its second and final preseason game on Sunday at Matador Soccer Field. In a long game that consisted of two 40-minute halves, followed by a 35-minute exhibition period, the two teams were both scoreless after the first half.

Campus takes steps to becoming greener

Right now, CSUN remains greener than most California colleges and universities when it comes to its methods for conserving and recycling water and energy. As global warming becomes more of a modern day reality, rather than just a future threat, the pressure continues to be placed on higher education institutions across the globe to set the prime example by becoming as environmentally conscious as possible.

Professors awarded grant of $12,000

Three CSUN professors were each awarded a $12,000 fellowship by the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation March 1 for their research on business, economic and public safety issues that impact the lives of Los Angeles citizens. Chicano/a and women's studies professor Marta Lopez-Garza, history professor Josh Sides and urban studies professor Ward Thomas were granted the recipients.
