Campus takes steps to becoming greener

Erin Resnick August 28, 2007
Right now, CSUN remains greener than most California colleges and universities when it comes to its methods for conserving and recycling water and energy. As global warming becomes more of a modern day reality, rather than just a future threat, the pressure continues to be placed on higher education institutions across the globe to set the prime example by becoming as environmentally conscious as possible.

Dear Sundial, I very much appreciated your op-ed pieces on parking. May I suggest that you do a follow-up article regarding ways to improve the situation? Each new parking space in a structure that the university has to build costs $16,000 to $18,000.

Welcome to Your CSUNSpot

Daily Sundial August 24, 2007
Community is a concern for us here at the Sundial. As numerous opinion pieces and A.S. presidents have lamented before, CSUN is distinctly lacking in community. To that effect we have created CSunSpot. CSunSpot is a place for you, the readers, to share your experiences with the CSUN community.

Brandon Der Avanessian August 24, 2007
Matador head women's soccer coach Keith West has high hopes for his 2007 squad, despite one of the toughest schedules the team has ever seen. The team will play UCLA and Florida State, two of the NCAA Final Four teams from 2006. The schedule also features matchups with Sweet 16 team Illinois, as well as a game against Long Beach State, currently ranked number one in the Big West Conference Pre-season Coach's Poll.

Su is also the director of the China Institute, a program designed to serve as a channel of communication and education between China and CSUN.

Maliha Jafri August 24, 2007
Starbucks prices are being hiked once again and consumers' pockets are taking a hit. As of July 31, Starbucks prices have increased for the second time in less than a year. The cost of a 12-ounce "tall" latte used to range from $2.45 to $3.15, depending on the location.

Finding cheap places to grub off campus

Meredith Sweet August 24, 2007
With an hour-long lunch break everyday throughout the course of a few weeks, a CSUN student could easily go to every eatery on campus. For students that enjoy a bit more variety, there are more than 20 restaurants within walking distance of the campus. Several of these restaurants offer student discounts, which is a welcome relief for those students who cannot afford to go to sit-down restaurants on a regular basis.

The report, "Turn the Page: Making College Textbooks More Affordable," was released by the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance (ACSFA).

Confessions of a Catholic Child uses humor to confront religion

Talynn Soghomonians August 23, 2007
It's almost judgment day and true to the Catholic faith, sins have to be forgiven in order to enter the pearly gates of Heaven. Yet, this is much easier said than done-especially when time is limited. In Elizabeth Appell's production "Confessions of a Catholic Child," 70-something-year-old Regina (Sandra Lafferty) is cancer-stricken and ready as ever to leave this world behind.
