Muslim neurobiologist speaks to Islamic youth

Energy research center leads to fuel cell, solar panels

Have you ever walked by the students' swimming pool toward the back parking lot and noticed the gated area with large silver boxes embellished with strange emblems and the words "Fuel cell energy"? Or maybe you noticed the solar panels in the parking lot? Did you stop to think, "What is all this equipment for and who put it there?" These products were brought to fruition by the Energy Research Center at California State University, Northridge.

PPM building subtropical rainforest on campus

CSUN's Physical Plant Management is working on a project that will use waste products to create a subtropical rainforest environment on campus that will leave other universities green with envy. "We're demonstrating to the industry that it can be done," said Tom Brown, executive director of PPM and coordinator for the project.

CSUN Professor Alexis Krasilovsky's documentary, "Women Behind the Camera," takes us behind the exciting work of cinematography as seen through the lens of a woman. Krasilovsky's film shows camerawomen from across the globe, including places such as Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, China and France that have overcome many obstacles to shoot some of the largest major motion pictures in history.

In the production "Kimberly Akimbo," which is written by David Lindsay-Abaire and directed by Maria Gobetti, a family full of sicknesses and addictions attempts to find love, acceptance and normalcy in the midst of their wacky shortcomings.

Professors showcase art ability in edge art exhibit

Edge art exhibit opened with a gallery reception on Saturday, Sept. 8, showcasing 34 emeriti and full-time studio faculty artists from the CSUN art department. The theme of the show, edge, a term with multiple interpretations ranging from "abyss" to "advantage," reveals a mixed media exhibition bringing together established and emerging artists in the exploration of visual and visionary communication.

Stonefire Grill recently opened its doors in Chatsworth's Pacific Theatres movie complex on Winnetka Avenue off Prairie Street, unfortunately it prompted negative responses. It may be the new restaurant's poor layout or perhaps the small chain's motto, "A fresh approach to family dining.

Ramadan more than just fasting

Today, about seven million Muslim Americans start fasting for an entire month. Muslims throughout the world abstain from eating, drinking and sexual activity from dawn to sunset. But more importantly, Ramadan is the time for self-reflection and self-purification.
