People from various racial backgrounds and ages held signs and chanted last Saturday in downtown Los Angeles that they wanted an end to the ongoing war in Iraq. Hundreds of people marched for two hours, having started on the corner of Broadway Street and Olympic Boulevard and concluding the march at the downtown Federal Building at 300 N.

Finance committee postpones 4 of 7 requests

The Associated Students Finance Committee voted to postpone four of the seven requests for allocations during yesterday's meeting. The most controversial item on the agenda was the "Date-A-Zeta" event, which the committee voted 5-1 to postpone indefinitely.

In the midst of a late season playoff-push, the Cal State Northridge women's soccer team played to a scoreless tie against conference opponent UC Irvine at Matador Soccer Field last Sunday. Both teams had their chances throughout the game, but the Matadors controlled the ball for the better part of the match.

However, when I read the article in the opinion section titled "Reduce Gang Violence by Understanding Race," written by Harriet Miranda, I was caught off guard.

Textbook transparency bill signed by governor

Students will be able to experience relief in terms of paying for pricey textbooks in 2010, as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed California Assembly Bill 1548 into law. Schwarzenegger vetoed a similar bill on Oct. 13. AB 1548, also known as known as the College Textbook Transparency Act, will require publishers to print on or inside of textbooks changes made to them from previous editions.

Matadors get first conference victory

It took a while, but the CSUN men's soccer team finally got its first BigWest Conference win. Despite playing Wednesday without junior forward Moy Gomez, senior midfielder Fergie Agwu and head coach Terry Davila, all of whom had to sit out due to red-card suspensions from Sunday's game in Maryland, the Matadors were able to hold the fort against the Cal State Fullerton Titans.

AIDS Walk Appreciation

I would like take the time to thank each and every member of the CSUN AIDS Walk Coalition. Last Sunday, you woke up early, put on your walking shoes and took steps toward eliminating ignorance and raising funds for AIDS awareness and research. This year, the AIDS Walk coalition consisted of 19 teams, not including the teams that chose to be a part of main the CSUN team.

The sun seemed to set early Oct. 21. Blue sky was nowhere to be seen in the Santa Clarita Valley that day. Very little could be seen past the thick cloud of smoke from the fires that have combed over Southern California. The Santa Ana winds had displayed their strength the entire weekend.
