Health center offers students relief to finals week stress

Stress is something most college students deal with during their university life. Considering all the factors that contribute to stress such as jobs, friends, family and school. As finals week approaches, stress can consume students' lives. Sharon Aronoff, health educator for the Klotz Student Health Center, said stress and people's reactions to it are different for everyone.

Student group combats prejudice

Standing Together Opposing Prejudice (STOP), a new multicultural student organization, held an interactive speaking event yesterday in front of Jerome Richfield Hall in order to raise awareness about discrimination and encourage students to stop using racial slurs in their everyday speech.

Symposium helps students with presentation skills

Graduates and undergraduates displayed their research presentations at the 12th annual Student Research and Creative Works Symposium held on Friday in the University Student Union's Grand Salon. Students had the choice to present an oral or poster board presentation about research that was completed within different academic fields.

Many students were engrossed in a passionate lecture Wednesday, given by the co-founder of Greenpeace International and Pulitzer prize nominee, Rex Weyler. The topic of Weyler's speech was titled "Ordinary Courage -What must we do today to offer future generations fair access to a sustainable and enjoyable life?" Weyler addressed the time he has spent in environmental activism and what "ordinary people" can do today to change the world.

Birth control prices rise in wake of deficit reduction act

Birth control prices are on the rise, doubling, tripling or even going five times higher. The Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 went into effect January 2007, and has eliminated most discounts for campus and low-income health centers. "This has a big impact on women and their way of life," said June Kwon, 20, a women's studies major and Women's Studies Student Association (WSSA) president.

Matadors upset at home by UC Irvine

The Matadors ice hockey team ended the first half of their season with a 4-2 loss to UC Irvine at the Valley Ice Center on Saturday. The game was the lowest scoring of the season, beating out CSUN's previous match against UCI which the Matadors won 5-3. CSUN managed only two goals Saturday, resulting in their weakest offensive outing against a Pacific Division team all season.
