‘Even Steven Goes to War’ boasts strong acting, important message

Even Steven Goes to War," a heartfelt play about a young boy's journey through the Vietnam War, debuted this weekend at the Little Theatre. An imaginative "Even Steven," played by the talented Jessica Hope Kummer, prepares for a move out of his childhood home by playing a war game with some friends.

‘Orange Lemon Egg Canary’ though magical, doesn’t quite do the trick

In the West Coast premiere of "Orange Lemon Egg Canary: A Trick in Four Acts," a unique blend of dark comedy, romance and magic are employed to draw the audience into an experience that is surprisingly intimate-but ultimately disappointing at the climax. Playwright Rinne Groff and director Talya Klein bring us the story of Great (Brett Schneider), a magician who is running from his past due to a magic trick that went terribly wrong.

Broad Contemporary Art Museum debuts at LACMA

The new addition to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art opened its doors to the public on Feb. 16, showcasing works by big-name contemporary artists and possessing an entertaining if at times perplexing atmosphere. The Broad Contemporary Art Museum, or BCAM for short, contains works by artists like Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons and John Baldessari.

CSUN on target to sweep LaSalle today

After a rough start to the 2008 baseball season last weekend against Northwestern, things went a lot smoother for the CSUN Matador baseball team against the LaSalle Explorers this past weekend. The Matadors grinded out a tough 7-5 win on Friday, but followed that effort up with blowouts the next two games, winning 15-0 on Saturday and 16-5 on Sunday.

Just like so many other times this season, time ran out with the Cal State Northridge women's basketball team behind on the scoreboard. This time, though, the end of the game also marked the end of the home season and the end of any hopes of a post season for the Matadors, who will be the only Big West team not playing in the Big West Tournament.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a historic executive order on the stage of Plaza del Sol Center yesterday establishing a new California cabinet position called the secretary of service and volunteering. Speaking to a capacity crowd in the performing arts center, Schwarzenegger announced that Karen Baker, a graduate of UCLA who has been serving the Schwarzenegger administration as the executive director of CaliforniaVolunteers, would be the first in the nation to hold a cabinet position dedicated to volunteerism.
