After a political scandal, spouses should speak up

Jessica Hager March 25, 2008
In the quest for greater transparency within politics, Americans (with the aid of the media) have all but demanded the complete day-to-day itineraries of our leaders. Shady government (and personal) dealings in years past have given Americans an appetite for complete honesty from our politicians, yet in a strange twist, Americans don't seem to want the same thing from political spouses.

‘Drillbit Taylor: Budget Bodyguard’ a movie all ages will enjoy

Linda Coburn March 25, 2008
Drillbit Taylor: Budget Bodyguard" is a surprisingly funny and sweet movie that had both my 17-year-old son and I cracking up and rooting for the underdogs. Owen Wilson (Drillbit), once again plays a charming and lovable loser who ultimately makes good, but he does it so well that we're still happy to go along for the ride.

‘Underpants’ play falls short of successful adult comedy

Linda Coburn March 25, 2008
The Underpants, on stage now at the Sierra Madre Playhouse, should not be confused with the best-selling children's "Captain Underpants" books which were quite a bit funnier. And it certainly doesn't rank up there in salaciousness with the Victoria's Secret Super Bowl commercials.

‘Gunman’ only raises questions

Megan McFadden March 15, 2008
It has been over a week since we found out about the "gunman" on campus and hopefully some dust has settled. It is amazing how quickly everyone went into panic mode. The majority of students' reactions I have heard involved people automatically assuming or thinking "what if?" What if the guy with a gun started shooting randomly? What if it turned into a Virginia Tech? What if he went into other dorm rooms? What if? I, however, am consumed with: What if it had happened in off-campus housing? Would the guy with a gun who was looking for a particular individual still be labeled as a "gunman.

If you pay for college, you can decide when to go

Savannah Dawkins March 15, 2008
Many students receive lower grades than they deserve in classes where absences unfairly affect their overall grade. The idea that in 15 weeks a student can only be absent twice before their grade in a class goes down an entire letter grade is ludicrous. Students who do the work and earn an A in a class should not get a B just because they were absent three times.

Matadors end great season with disappointing loss

Alonso Tacanga March 15, 2008
Fullerton blew out the Matadors (20-10 overall) in the first half and Northridge was never able to recover as the Titans (23-8) easily handled them and won 83-68 in Friday's Big West Conference tournament semifinals at the Anaheim Convention Center, ending the Matadors' season and any hope they had of reaching the NCAA tournament.
