CSU nursing doctorate pitched by Calif. senator to increase workforce

As California faces an increasing need for nurses in the workforce, Sen. Jack Scott (D-Pasadena) has introduced Senate Bill 1288, which would authorize the California State University system to independently award doctorates in nursing practice. The degree program would require training nurses for advanced nursing practice, prepare faculty to teach in post-secondary nursing education programs and enable professionals to earn degrees while working on a full-time basis.

Northridge sweeps North Dakota, loses in tourney

The CSUN softball team split its four games this weekend, sweeping a doubleheader with the University of North Dakota on Friday at Matador Diamond, but losing both its games in the Long Beach State Invitational on Sunday. Northridge needed only five innings to assert themselves in game one against North Dakota State, winning by a score of 8-0.

When you're ranked 14th in the nation, but competing in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation where most of the other teams are ranked higher, you have to take advantage of every opportunity to get a conference win. The Matadors missed a great opportunity on Saturday, losing 7-5 to the 13th-ranked Long Beach 49ers at Matador pool.

The Congressional Budget Office reported last week the Iraq War will cost the U.S. $12 billion a month this year. An estimate of $845 billion will be spent on the war by the end of the year. That is $175 billion dollars more than the total cost of the 12-year Vietnam War.
