Chess club wins against master players

The Matador Chess Club placed second in the U-1800 section during the 25th Annual Amateur Team West tournament Feb. 15-16. The Northridge representatives went up against some of the better chess players in the world. Jeffrey Cohen, CSUN's highest-ranked player, is considered "expert" according to the United States Chess Federation's national ranking system.

It turns out I can look like a supermodel with the click of a mouse. A little more definition in the cheeks, shrink the waist by five inches, and lets not forget about the butt! Add a healthy glow to my skin so it looks like I came from an exotic South American country and I'm almost at digital perfection.

Dear Editor, I'm sure that whether we are current undergrads, graduating seniors, or alumni, we can all agree that graduation from a university is a monumental moment. Ethnic background is irrelevant when it comes to the commitment and dedication it takes to make it through endless hours of stress, homework, stress, studying, stress, and writing novels commonly known as final papers.

Northridge to compete in BWC championships

The Cal State Northridge men's golf team will compete in the Big West Championships today and tomorrow at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. The Matadors, one of nine teams competing in the tournament, will play 36 holes of golf today and 18 holes tomorrow.

Bill aims to allow CA to clean up air

A bill in the House of Representatives aims to stop California from implementing greenhouse emission standards stricter than that of the federal government. The Environmental Protection Agency granted California a waiver to be able to do so. The bill aims to overturn the decision.

Carnival at the USU

The Plaza Del Sol hosted the beginning of the eleventh annual Carnaval celebration yesterday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hosted by Associated Students and the University Student Union, it offered free food, temporary tattoos and entertainment. Employees from Tiva Body Art sprayed on tattoos and the Sunrise Entertainment Company provided acrobatic feats and magic.

Matadors defeat Bruins

The CSUN men's baseball team completed a two-game series with UCLA that first began on Feb. 26. The first game was called in the eighth inning due to darkness, but only after the Bruins put 22 runs on the board, compared to Northridge's two. The last two innings were completed Tuesday, followed by the second game of the series at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Matadors hosting Stanford Saturday

The Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team will open up MPSF Tournament play with a quarterfinal match against the Stanford Cardinal at the Matadome on Saturday at 7 p.m. Northridge is ranked fourth in the nation and is seeded third in the tournament.

Certain technologies, like the creation of biodiesel made from corn or soy, were at first hailed as cutting-edge solutions to our addiction to fossil fuels.

Northridge victory is third straight win

The CSUN women's tennis team won its third straight match on Tuesday with a 4-3 defeat of Fresno Pacific University at the Matador Tennis Complex. Not only did the Sunbirds come into the match with a 17-0 record, but the No. 2 nationally-ranked team in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently won the Golden State Athletic Conference championship.

Matadors drop two tough MPSF games

The Cal State Northridge women's water polo team faced two of the top teams in the nation last weekend and came away with two more losses. The Matadors were defeated 12-5 by No. 7 Arizona State on Saturday and lost to No. 5 San Diego State 15-8 on Sunday. CSUN, ranked 15th in the nation, was unable to pull off the upset against the Sun Devils at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Arizona.
