Manley Witten has been publisher of the Daily Sundial for eleven years, helping the rotating staff to produce breaking news, features, sports and investigative stories before they are released into the real world to prepare for a media job. Unfortunately, his time at CSUN will come to an end in August, when he departs for Pittsburgh with his wife.

I have been sitting at my desk for what feels like 48 hours staring at my computer screen. I leave only for bathroom breaks, to shove food in my mouth or to refill my caffeine fix. I have research papers, presentations and finals on my mind. I am a perfect example of what not to do as a student at the end of a semester.

President Koester should not strip a student’s right to choose

The executive branch of CSUN has infringed the student's right to vote. They have stripped the rights of students to voice their decisions, not opinions, but their decisions on a significant issue that will ultimately tax the students for more money to compensate for resources that many would disagree with.

Censorship, imprisonment, persecution and prosecution. In time of war, the U.S. government has gone to extreme measures to limit the amount of "anti-American" speak and sentiment. The Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 and the Homeland Security Act of 2002 are two examples of this.

To the Editor: ? While I was a member of the group,?Consensus,?that invited Michael Parenti to speak on campus ("Controversial speaker addresses political perceptions, deceptions," Sundial, April 28), I find, in retrospect,?that he?complicates what is actually quite simple.

Banning Barbie isn’t the answer

She's a doctor, a pilot, and more recently a whimsical island princess. She's also a hazard to little girls. Since her debut to the world in 1959, Barbie has been creating quite a commotion with her unachievable proportions. She has been marketed to little girls as the doll that can do it all: be a doctor and look fabulous while doing it.

Marketing dept. earns recognition

The Design Factory at the CSUN University Student Union won eight awards at the annual Association of College Unions International Conference in New Orleans. The Design Factory is a student-run marketing department for the USU. They are responsible for providing promotional services for campus programs and events such as Matador Nights and Up All Night.

Arrest made in UPA thefts, burglaries

An arrest has been made for the thefts that occurred at the on-campus housing last month. Kenneth Ray James Jr., 22, was arrested in suspicion of 10 thefts and burglaries at the University Park Apartments, said CSUN Detective Mark Benavidez. James was arrested after authorities were investigating a theft reported from another burglary, said Christina Villalobos, special assistant to the chief of police.
