‘Prom Night’ lacks convincing acting, falls into typical plot

The most anticipated high school event is prom -the night many social dreams are expected to be fulfilled with friends you have made throughout high school. Prom is also every high school student's final realization that high school is over and that things will never be the same again.

‘Iron Man’ not just another hyped-up super hero movie

There are many critics that say superhero movies are clich'eacute; and worn out. There are some comic book fanatics that say that it is impossible to properly adapt a good comic to the silver screen. Both groups would be happy to know that "Iron Man" proves them wrong on all accounts.

Trial postponed for vandalism suspect

A former CSUN student who was arrested for setting off five fire alarms and cited for vandalism received his third postponement at San Fernando Superior Court on May 5, after his defense attorney who has been retained by the suspect's family made the request.

Cal State Northridge closed out a five-game home stand on Sunday with a 4-1 win against UC Irvine, avoiding a sweep by the Anteaters, who took the first game on Friday 4-1, as well as Saturday's game 1-0. The Matadors started their busy week by defeating non-conference opponent UNLV on Tuesday 2-1 and on Wednesday 5-3.

Upcoming summer movies: something for everyone

This summer is shaping up to be a great one for movies, with a lot of highly-anticipated blockbusters hitting theaters over the next few months. Opening May 9 is "Speed Racer" directed by the Wachowski brothers, the guys behind the Matrix movies. The movie, based on the 1960s cartoon, is about a race car driver, Speed Racer, going up against a corrupt company while teaming up with his ex-rival Racer X to try to win a race that claimed his brother's life.

A.S. recommends $6.7 million for annual budget

The Associated Students Senate approved a $6.7 million annual budget for the 2008-2009 academic year after debating over 35 amendments during a six-hour meeting on April 29, followed by a continuation meeting on May 1. The annual budget was calculated assuming a total student population of 33,750 for both the fall and spring semesters, with a fee of $76 per student, and 6,000 students for summer with a fee of $44 per student.

After a controversial Associated Student election and a long process of figuring out who are the next candidates to fill the seats of A.S. president and vice president for the 2008-09 year, Miguel Segura (President) and Nicole Umali (Vice President) of the Educate, Empower, Enhance (E3) slate have won the seats in the run-off election on April 22-23.

Mexican culture celebrated in concert

Colorful dancers twirled around the stage at the Performing Arts Center on Saturday night, spinning in perfect step to a mariachi band as they celebrated the fifth annual Folklor de Mexico music and dance concert. The show was mostly comprised of theatrical dance acts by the Ballet Folklorico Aztlan de CSUN, a folklorical dance group that spends months in preparation for their annual show.

Phishing emails sent to students, IT warns of possible scams

A fraudulent email claiming to represent CSUN's networking services was sent a couple of weeks ago to approximately 400 email accounts of students, faculty and staff. The email comprised requested that users provide their full name, address, email account login, and question and answer to their password.
