The Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team made changes to its starting lineup Friday night, hoping it would bring in its first home victory of the season and a 2-0 start in Big West Conference play, but Long Beach State didn’t allow it. The CSUN women’s volleyball team hopes to continue its winning formula in Big West Conference play as it prepares for its conference home opener against Long Beach State Friday night. Behind Mahina Haina’s team-high 13 kills, the Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team opened its Big West Conference season with a straight-set victory (27-25, 25-16, 25-20) over UC Riverside on Saturday night at the UCR Recreation Center. BYU and its impressive 10-3 record entered the Matadome Saturday afternoon on the back end of a six-game road trip along with a heartbreaking defeat the prior night at Cal State Fullerton. W-Vball: Matadors win two out of three at UNLV Invitational

The Matadors played for keeps in Sin City. With a well-balanced attack, the CSUN women’s volleyball team was able to defeat UNLV in five sets in the final match of the UNLV tournament. Sophomore Mahina Haina and freshman Casey Hinger led the team with 15 kills each. Redshirt sophomore Britney Graff and sophomore Natalie Allen also contributed, with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Coming off a hard-fought loss to No. 9 USC, the CSUN women’s volleyball team will look to rebound at the UNLV tournament on Friday and Saturday.
