SAT scoring errors worry prospective CSUN students

Only a few prospective CSUN students had SAT scores that were incorrectly scored by the college board, said a CSUN official. Eric Forbes, director of Admissions and Records at CSUN, said about six applicants were affected by the scoring errors, but the score discrepancy was not drastic enough to affect their admission to the university.

Redwood Hall receives wall mural, makeover

Redwood Hall is getting a makeover. For weeks the exterior south side of the building has been under renovation. A new sports mural, tram stop, and landscape refurbishment project are all part of an effort to update Redwood Hall’s image. Art students submitted designs for the public sports mural for Redwood Hall.

CSUN students, professors join immigration protest

Hundreds of thousands of people packed the streets of downtown Los Angeles March 25 to protest pending federal legislation designed to enforce stricter immigration laws and increase border security. A passionate and vocal crowd came out to protest HR 4437 – a bill that if passed would make it a felony to help undocumented immigrants, create new penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants, increase the number of border security officers, and to allow the construction of a large fence at the U.

Mysterious clean-up notes concern Comm. Studies

Several faculty members in the Communication Studies Department were surprised nearly over a week ago to find notes in their offices from custodial workers, informing them their rooms would only be cleaned once a week, a department official said. The notes were handwritten on half sheets of yellow paper and left behind in many of the third-floor faculty offices of the Communication Studies Department in Manzanita Hall, said Yolanda Avila, administrative support coordinator of the department Communication Studies professors went into their department and voiced concerns about the content of the notes, Avila said.

Someone to talk to when times get tough

Cindy Franco, senior sociology major, was finishing her first year at CSUN when she realized that she needed help. The strains of university life had gotten to her and she needed someone to talk to. “I felt overwhelmed with my classes and the general pace of the year,” Franco said.

SPACE makes plans for smaller Big Show

Daily Sundial Student Productions and Campus Entertainment hold Big Show 6 this semester with a smaller budget, said the executive director of Student Productions and Campus Entertainments. Last year, with a budget of $120,000, SPACE was able to hire Indie rock group Jimmy Eat World for the Big Show – a large-scale, free concert for CSUN students sponsored by SPACE, a division of Associated Students.

Game over, arcade

Daily Sundial The Starcade Arcade, a longtime source of gaming relief for CSUN students at the Matador Bookstore Complex, has been closed and replaced by an addition to the bookstore. The University Corporation, which oversees commercial services, saw an opportunity to provide the Matador Bookstore with much needed additional space, said Dave Nirenberg, director of commercial services for the corporation.

Gov. Schwarzenegger proposes student fee freeze

Daily Sundial There is hope for students who have a hard time paying for tuition at CSUN. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed to eliminate the scheduled 8 percent fee hike for students at the University of California and California State University campuses for the 2006-2007 year.
