The men and women’s cross country teams both finished in 8th place at the Arizona State Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 6 at Kiwanis Park.
The men’s team finished with 166 points, with a total time of 2:19:25.20 and an average time of 27:53.04 for the 8k course. Arizona State University’s “B” team won the competition with a total time of 2:09:34.30 and an average time of 25:54.86.
Senior Manual Ruiz was CSUN’s top male finisher, placing 27th with a time of 26:29.4. The winner of the men’s race was sophomore Jacob Kirwa of Dine College, located in Tsaile, Ariz.. His winning time was 24:15.9.
The women’s team finished with 215 points, with a total time of 1:45:39.50 and an average time of 21:07.90 for the 5k course. University of Arizona won the women’s team competition with a total time of 1:33:51.50 and an average time of 18:46.30.
CSUN’s top finisher for the women was sophomore Marissa Crook, who placed 40th with a time of 20:21.7. The winner of the women’s race was senior Kelly Young from University of Texas at El Paso with a time of 18:13.2.
Both CSUN cross country teams will compete on Oct. 19 at the Cal State Fullerton Invitational.
