Leaked emails show four Nordstrom Topanga employees tested positive for COVID-19
August 5, 2020
At least four employees at the Nordstrom located in Westfield Topanga have tested positive for COVID-19 since July 14, according to leaked internal emails. The Sundial received copies of the emails from a Nordstrom staff member, who wishes to remain anonymous to avoid retaliation by their employer.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health says that “if there are three or more laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases identified at a workplace, the employer should report the cluster to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.”
Once reported, a public health case manager will be assigned to help guide the workplace’s response and cluster investigation.
LADPH maintains a public online database listing businesses that have reported case clusters — three or more confirmed COVID-19 cases — as a way to inform the public of current outbreaks in L.A. County.
The database does not contain any entries of clusters from Westfield Topanga or Nordstrom Topanga as of Aug. 4.
In March, Nordstrom closed all of its U.S. stores — over 360 — and offered employees two-weeks paid-time-off, according to CNBC.
The stores reopened in early June, but Nordstrom laid off thousands of their employees and permanently closed 16 of its locations.
Westfield Topanga suspended its indoor operations last month but allowed for retailers with exterior entrances, including Nordstrom, to remain open — a move that is in compliance with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s mandate.
The Sundial reached out to Nordstrom on multiple occasions, on both the local and corporate level, to comment and confirm the information in the emails. Nordstrom has yet to respond.
Westfield Topanga declined to comment.
