Are you looking to get beautifully long, glossy hair without an expensive trip to the salon?

DIY hair masks are a great way to achieve the hair you want. Did you realize there are so many ways to make a hair mask for growth simply by using what you already have in your kitchen? If you want to learn more about how to achieve beautifully long hair at home, keep reading!

Mask 1: Onion Juice

Although the name of this DIY hair mask might not sound the most inviting, it is undoubtedly effective. The onion juice hair mask not only helps to stimulate hair growth but it also helps to make your hair wonderfully thick. The reason is that onion juice promotes blood flow, which results in longer, thicker hair when placed on your scalp.

Ingredients:

  • Onion extract (from one onion)
  • Coconut oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Lemon extract (0.5 tablespoon)
  • Honey (1 tablespoon)

Method:

Mix these ingredients in a bowl and apply generously to your roots. Allow the hair mask to rest for 30 minutes before washing it off with shampoo.

You should use this hair mask three times per month for maximum effectiveness.

Mask 2: Honey and Egg

Egg is well known for being a fantastic ingredient to help give you healthy hair. This recipe uses egg and honey to help stop hair loss and strengthen roots as well as promote new hair growth. The great bonus of this particular DIY hair mask is that it only uses two ingredients that you probably already have at home!

Ingredients:

  • Egg (1)
  • Honey (1 tablespoon)

Method:

Simply crack the egg into a bowl and mix it with the honey until it forms a uniform paste. Once ready, apply the hair mask to your hair and allow to sit for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, gently wash out the hair mask using shampoo, ensuring no mask is left on your hair. If there is any left-over smell from the egg you can use conditioner to remove it.

Mask 3: Coconut and Banana

Coconut has long been a saving grace for hair growth due to its antioxidant properties. This is why coconut oil is so common in hair products. But did you know that banana is also great for hair? The high potassium levels in bananas help prevent hair breakage, promoting growth.

Ingredients:

  • Ripe banana (1)
  • Coconut oil (as needed)

Method:

Mash one ripe banana in a bowl and slowly add coconut oil until it produces a smooth paste that is easy to spread. If the mask is too thick, you can also add a small amount of water or coconut milk to thin it out. Apply the hair mask to your scalp and rub it into your hair until the ends. Leave for approximately 30 minutes before washing off.

Mask 4: Mayo

Although it may sound a bit strange initially, you should remember that mayo contains egg, which is excellent for hair growth. Mayo also contains oils, lemon juice, and a small amount of vinegar, all fantastic products to promote hair growth. If you don’t have any eggs at home, the chances are that you do have mayo!

Ingredients:

  • Coconut oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Mayo (4 tablespoons)
  • Olive oil (1 tablespoon)

Method:

Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl until they are thoroughly combined. Apply to your hair, focusing on your roots, and leave for 30 minutes. Rinse the hair mask off using a sulfate-free shampoo.
