From Retail to Hospitality: A Diverse Entrepreneurial Journey 

At the age of 25, Sunil embarked on his own entrepreneurial journey by opening his first business in McAllen, Texas. Specializing in electronics and fine watches, his retail store catered to the demands of the market. Recognizing the potential of e-commerce, Sunil expanded his business online, capitalizing on emerging platforms like Amazon. As his business flourished, Sunil found himself facing a pivotal moment when he made the difficult decision to sell his online store. Although it was a setback, Sunil’s resilience and determination paved the way for his future successes. 

Undeterred by challenges, Sunil ventured into real estate development, hoping to capitalize on this industry’s potential. However, just as he launched a housing development project, the market crashed, leaving him with yet another setback. Despite these obstacles, Sunil’s unwavering spirit led him to discover a new opportunity in the hospitality sector. In 2000, he became a franchisee with La Quinta Inn & Suites, opening a 65-room inn in Pharr, Texas.  

The hospitality industry presented its own set of challenges for Sunil, but his dedication to his business never wavered. He expanded his real estate and hotel portfolios, becoming a franchisee with Motel 6 and opening properties in various cities in the Rio Grande Valley. In 2020, Sunil achieved a significant milestone by partnering with Marriott to open the TownePlace Suites San Antonio Northwest at The RIM, a 109-suite extended-stay hotel. This collaboration with a prestigious brand like Marriott showcased the culmination of Sunil’s hard work and dedication. 

The Hands-On Approach: A Key to Sunil’s Success 

Throughout his career, Sunil has been recognized for his achievements, earning accolades such as Franchise of the Year multiple times for both La Quinta and Motel 6. His company generates over $8.5 million in annual revenue, employing more than 120 people. Despite his success, Sunil remains deeply involved in the daily operations of his hotels. He personally visits each location, meeting with his management team and making operational decisions to ensure the highest level of quality and service. 

Sunil’s hands-on approach sets him apart from many other entrepreneurs. While others may seek shortcuts or delegate responsibilities, Sunil believes in the value of hard work and being fully engaged in his business. He understands the importance of knowing every aspect of his operations, from finances to employee management. This level of involvement allows him to make informed decisions and maintain the highest standards across his properties.
