So today I was heading to CSUN very frustrated because I hadn’t been able to get a hold of men’s soccer coach Terry Davila and I needed to ask him who he was gonna put up as a forward because, well, his three best forwards are out for tomorrow night’s game at UC Santa Barbara….anyways….back to the story….I was heading to the office when I spotted two familiar faces on the sidewalk next to a car that seemed to be having battery problems. It was forward Cameron Sims and midfielder Ruben Rodriguez attending Sims’ car.
I decided to go up to them and ask them what was wrong with the vehicle. They didn’t know exactly, but it had something to do with the battery. Then, Rodriguez went somewhere to get I don’t know what, so I stayed with Sims talking. He gave me some possible bad news, though. He said Moy Gomez might be out for the season with a torn ACL (ok he’s no doctor, but he might have heard something) and that he himself will be out for three weeks after his appendectomy procedure.
I asked him: What the hell is up with all the injuries (Gomez, Sims, Deldó, García)?
He said: “The field is fucking cursed.”
Cool guy, Mr. Sims.
Rodriguez came back a few minutes later with a soda can and he poured some of the liquid on top of the battery. It worked. Sims turned the ignition and the car was up and running again. Then Rodriguez conceded a brief interview and we all went on our ways.
UC Santa Barbara is ranked No. 18 in the nation. Tall task for the Matadors.
