Despite a strong initial defense, CSUN Women’s basketball finished 74-58 against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Thursday night at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
The Matador’s defense was especially strong in the first period, however the Gauchos finished the period 23-14.
CSUN began to close the gap in the second period but trailed behind the Gauchos by the end with 26-36.
Playing more offensively in the second half, CSUN was able to narrow the gap, with the Gauchos being 59-55 halfway through the last period. However, UCSB pulled ahead and finished 74-58.
The Matadors currently stand in eighth place of the Big West Conference.
CSUN’s next game will be against Long Beach State on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Premier America Credit Union Arena.
