Last week, the CSUN women’s soccer and volleyball teams were away, racking up wins in the process. While the men’s soccer team was at home, they picked up a big win of their own against Cal State Fullerton 3-1.
While the men’s soccer team hits the road, the women’s teams return back home this week and during Big Show week at that. So, with all of the events and festivities going on this week, we will take a look at some of the big games to look out for during the week.
Women’s Volleyball:
Before they started their game against Long Beach State, the Matadors were off a two-game losing streak with a record of 4-8, and ever since their massive upset against Long Beach State, the Matadors have been on a roll.
The team has gone on to boast a four-game win streak, with three of these games ending in a sweep. Resting at an 8-8 record, the momentum this team has created for themselves has been nothing short of exciting and this will have the potential to continue as they face UC San Diego on Friday.
Last time these two teams met, the Matadors won in a four-set matchup (3-1). This game could add to the winning streak and create even more momentum for the team, or the Matadors could fall into the trap of confidence after four great wins.
The first serve will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 at Premier America Credit Union Arena. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Women’s Soccer:
After not starting the season as strongly as they may have liked, women’s soccer has really made a large step in the right direction. After winning the last three matches, the Matadors are beginning to show shades of that very competitive playoff team from last year and hold a record of 5-5-4.
This week the Matadors take on Cal Poly (5-5-3) and Cal Baptist (6-2-3). These are very interesting matchups; over the past three seasons, these teams have faced each other it has not been particularly in the Matadors’ favor. Although the Matadors tied last year against Cal Poly, the matchup against Cal Baptist appears even more exciting considering Cal Baptist is now a conference matchup for the Matadors.
After losing to the Lancers three years in a row, the Matadors will attempt to break this multi-year loss streak on the night of Big Show. The ball will hit the pitch at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Matador Soccer Field.
