Earth 2 Comics held its grand opening on June 13, 2009. The doors opened at 11 a.m., but eager customers were lined up at 10:30 anxiously waiting to grab what they wanted before it disappeared.
Many of the customers were excited to see the writers and artists that were scheduled to appear throughout the day. Most people were unaware that Geoff Johns, a popular writer for D.C Comics, co-owns the store.
“I didn’t even know that, really? That’s cool,” said Alex, a frequent customer, when he was asked how he found out that Johns was the co-owner of the store.
Because Johns was working the register, the line was moving slowly, but the customers didn’t seem to mind. They were able to skim through merchandise as they patiently waited their turn. When they arrived at the cash register they were able to chat with the writer, get an autograph and snap a photo.
As the day went on, people began lining up outside to wait for more of the promised comic book celebrities to arrive. The majority of the customers enjoyed the new store.
