There’s one stat that stood out for Cal State Northridge after losing, 75-68, to Seattle University in a non-conference game at the Matadome.

“I just can’t get over that 25 (offensive rebounds) number, which is just staring right at me,” said CSUN head coach Bobby Braswell after the Matadors were out rebound 44-36. “I’m looking at this stat sheet and I’m looking at all the good numbers we had (against Seattle) and 25 offensive rebounds is just unbelievable.”

The good numbers Braswell was referring to was CSUN holding the Redhawks to 34.9 percent from the field and 13.3 percent from three-point range, but the rebounding blunders was all CSUN wanted to talk about.

“We just couldn’t rebound the ball, that was the main thing,” said Josh Greene, who scored nine points.”

After overcoming a 14-point deficit in the second half, Greene’s basket gave the Matadors a 53-52 lead with 8:32 left in regulation, but a fired up Greene was given a technical foul.

The technical sparked a Seattle 6-0 run.

“It was just me being immature,” freshman Greene said. “It’s part of my game I need to work on and improve, which I’m still getting there. “I’m always fired up with energy, but sometimes I need to keep a level head.”

CSUN did manage to tie the score again at 60-all and had the lead at 65-63 with 4:08 left.

However, turnovers and the inability to rebound cost the Matadors the game, as Seattle closed out the game on a 12-3 run.

Earlier this season CSUN lost at Seattle, 65-58. Similar to this game, the Matadors were outrebound 44-28 and held the Redhawks to 36 percent shooting from the field.

Aaron Broussard scored a game-high 22 points and Cervante Burrell chipped in 20 points for Seattle.

Dathan Lyles had a game-high 10 points for Northridge. CSUN shot 49 percent from the field on 24-of-50 shooting.

The Matadors will get back to Big West play on Saturday against Cal Poly at the Matadome in a game televised on Fox Sports West. Tip-off will be at 1 p.m.
