Softball
In junior Hannah Fraijo’s pitching debut this season, the Cal State Northridge softball team defeated Portland State, 4-3, at the Kajikawa Classic Tournament in Arizona on Sunday. The Matadors improved their record to 3-2. The squad swings back to action this week at the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic as they face Portland State, BYU, Utah State, Hawai’i and Nevada.
Tennis
On the tennis courts, the Matador women’s team (4-4, 1-2 Big West) lost, 4-3, to No .43 Long Beach State Saturday evening in a close match. Jennifer Sher and Brooke Doane scored the first doubles point for CSUN, while Sabrina Man-Son-Hing and Maria Pistalu added the second. Senior Nina Jaworowski defeated her opponent in straight sets.
Track and Field
Led by junior Precious Watkins who won both the 60 and 200-meter races, the CSUN track and field team captured six event titles at the Boise State Team Challenge on Saturday. With a time of 7.66 seconds, Watkins scored the quickest preliminary time in the 60 meters and ran a 24.56 to win the 200 meters. The next event for the team will be the MPSF Indoor Championships, which will take place Feb. 25-26 at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Washington.
