Brush fires

A brush fire that started at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Sept. 28 scorched more than 20,000 acres in less than two days, drawing 3,000 firefighters to fight 15 miles of fire line, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. The firefighters were operating under a unified command Friday, with personnel coming from the Ventura County Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles City Fire, California Department of Forestry and the National Parks Service along with other agencies throughout California. Threatened areas included Chatsworth, Reyes Adobe, Lindero Canyon, Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Kanan Road, the City of Hidden Hills, Box Canyon, Woolsey Canyon, Santa Susana Knolls, and Mount Calabasas. Dozens of schools were closed in the area, and several American Red Cross evacuation centers were set up.
